right now a live look at a news conference currently under way in raleigh. reverend william barber who represents run the naacp in neither carolina is running that press krcconference. the previous 11 weeks of protests have resulted in arrests. they focus on the economic and social and education and voting policies. they have been organized by the north carolina chapter of the naacp and joining me now from that organization is eydie, a senior director for voting rights for the naacp. always good to see you. first of all, how is the new voter i.d. bill before the north carolina senator, how is this bill different from the one passed by the house back in april? >> well, when we look at this legislation that is before the north carolina senate, this photo i.d. is very harsh. it's one of the harshest photo i.d. measures that we have seen in our nation. when we look at it particularly the fact that students have been systemically cut out. you cannot use a student i.d. you can't even use a public employee i.d. as the measure that is before the north carolina senat

mara schiavocampo is joining me live from raleigh where she attended yesterday's protesters.all, explain for us what happened yesterday. >> yeah, well, yesterday was pretty typically as far as the last couple of weeks of these protests have been concerned. thousands of people between 3 and five are the estimates that came out to a large outdoor area near the legislative building for big rally where they heard speakers and chanted and a typical political rally. then a group of them moved into the legislative building for what is an organized plan act of civil disobedience. when they refused to leave is when they are arrested and this takes place a couple of blocks from where i am. i'm here at the state capital building and a couple of blocks away is the legislative building and where those arrests take place. 73 people arrested yesterday. overall, more than 900 people have been arrested since this started 12 weeks ago. the first week they did it, they got 75 protesters and 17 arrests. and since then, they have had thousands every week and over 900 arrests like i mentioned. the
