randy? >> reporter: police are investigating this triple shooting which is also a homicide investigation. as you mentioned gunshots happened outside of a nightclub. the a lounge nightclub. it happened just before 4:00 this morning. detectives and csi units stilling out the scene. we've been watching them go in and out gathering evidence. police say the suspect in this case, 27 years old, was outside the club when for some reason he opened fire killing a 37-year-old man, injuring another 24-year-old. and at some point during this gunfire police say the club security guard who was armed came outside, saw what was happening and shot the suspect in the leg and the groin effectively ending the threat. we do know the security guard is being interviewed by police and authorities tell us that the suspect is in custody. he's alive despite being shot two times. he was taken to temple hospital. we should note this 4200 block is pretty well known to philadelphia police. we have tracked at least three sh

that's where nbc 10's randy gyllenhaal is live this. randy, police just cleaning up the scene. >> reporter: police left within the last 30 minutes after conducting an hours long investigation. they tell us the bullets started flying here outside the a lounge at 4:00 this morning. a triple shooting. also a homicide investigation. police say the suspect, 27 years old, was outside of the club on the street here when he opened fire killing a 37-year-old man, injuring another 24-year-old. and at some point during all this gunfire police say it was the club's security guard who came outside, saw what was happening, and shot that suspect in the leg, in the groin area, effectively ending the threat. that security guard now being interviewed by philadelphia police. meantime, the suspect is alive and in police custody despite being shot two times. that suspect taken to temple hospital. we should also note that this block of the city is pretty familiar to police. the 4200 block of mcallister. we have been tracking about three different shootings h

nbc 10's randy gyllenhaal is live at philadelphia's new headquarters with more on this investigation. randy, fill us in here. >> reporter: rosemary, police say the teens were just sitting on their front stoop when a gunman came out nof where and opened fire. it's the ages of the victims that makes the case even more disturbing. philadelphia police got reports of gunfire in north philly just after midnight when officers arrived they saw this group of young people and two victims lying in the street including a 16-year-old who was shot in the chest, also in the neck area. police say he was pronounced dead on the scene. investigators also say that a 12-year-old boy was hit by gunfire, shot in the leg. that child was taken to temple hospital. >> the two victims were with a bunch of other children basically hanging out, sitting on the steps talking. one male shooter, about 5'6" wearing all dark clothing came upon them and started firing into the crowd. >> reporter: police say the gunman then took off running. the search continues this morning. police do say the 12-year-old who was hit in t
