aly honig as well, with -- democratic congressman jamie raskin raskin. congressman, i don't have any this surprise you, but how damning do you think this is for the former president? >> well, it's doubly damning, when you consider that there is also an i. t. worker on the staff, who is apparently prepared to testify. they think donald trump tried to get him to delete security camera footage, from the trump servers. so obviously, donald trump was trying to cover his tracks. sometimes he tries to play the fool, and act as if he doesn't really know what he is doing. or maybe he is too crazy to be found criminally responsible. but, this demonstrates, clearly, premeditated patterns of obstructing the investigation of the evidence. and he has been charged in that case, with not just stealing those documents and concealing those documents over repeated efforts to get them back, but also of obstruction of justice. so, i think there is an extremely promising progress for the prosecutors in all these cases. but, this one just seems like an open and shut case to me

or ranking member jamie raskin here leading the charge for democrats, but you've also got people like congressman dan goldman who, of course, was on the democratic side before being elected during one of the last impeachment inquiries. he certainly is someone who we're going to be listening closely to. many of these members on the democratic side attempting to not fall into the trap of defending hunter biden, but also consistently reminding that there is no direct evidence at this point that ties president joe biden to the allegations that republicans are talking about, and i know that in the last hour, one of the things we were discussing was the idea of this being centrally focused on hunter and other members of the biden family. i have to tell you, i've spoken to democratic congressmen, even just before they went into this room, and the point that one of them made to me was that to the extent that there is evidence about hunter, that's being dealt with through the department of justice right now. but this is centrally focused on president biden, and that evidence is lacking, even i

they don't have a jamie raskin. they don't have that. but also, more importantly, they don't have any facts. you're a strategist in the political world. why would they bother with this enterprise? >> my theory of the case is over the summer, their indictment of biden as president became much weaker. the economy continues to be strong, inflation is way down, his border plan is working. murder rates are way down, so the issues around crime, the border, inflation, the economy, which are the key things they have been attacking biden on, have sort of evaporated over the last few months. what do they have left to feed the right-wing noise machine beast every day? they had to go after biden as man, as father, as a person, not as president. and the problem is, that's a losing strategy for them. there's a feeling of, i think, desperation, something deeply pathetic about what's happening here. and it's a sign of weakness, not strength, for them. i think their main thing they have to do is indict biden as president. that's become very hard. so now

then you have, and this is more political than legal, but you have the spectacle of jamie raskin, thepposite side of the aisle who started out yesterday in his speechifying talking, accusing republicans of using bad language are, bad references to the president which was spoken against protocol. and i thought congressman raskin's point was very clear, some of this is research. it's mocking impeachment. the impeachment process is supposed to be for obvious high crimes and misdemeanors. things that are so blatant that the entire public knows or understands them. things that are so blatant that they attack the core, the absolute core of our democracy. the idea that republicans basically want to do this because they just don't like joe biden doesn't that sort of make a mockery of what an impeachment is supposed to be about anyway? >> yeah, jason. i'm glad you framed it that way because we're about to see the fitness of speaker kevin mccarthy put to test. we're about to see his personal integrity put to the test. we're about to see his ability to be a prudent custodian of the house put to the test. this goes all the way back to the corrupt bargain that kevin mccarthy made with matt gaetz and marjorie taylor greene and all of the others to become speaker after 15 votes. and i believe the deal was struck then. in january. i don't think it's a deal in the works now
