joining us right now in a cnbc exclusive is general ray odierno. he is chief of staff with the u.s.l, it's wonderful to have you on the program. >> thanks, maria. >> i don't have to say enough times, but i will once again, every time i see you, your service to this country has been unbelievable and thank you very much, general. i know our audience joins me in welcoming you here. tell us the impact that you're seeing already, as a result of the military spending cuts. >> well, the problem we have is with sequestration, it's not only the amount, it's the steepness of it. it's so sudden, it's very difficult to do balanced cuts that make sense. so what's occurring this year is, since we can't cut people, because you just can't get rid of them fast enough, and it would cost us more because of the incentives we'd have to pay to reduce a significant amount of military people, we have to take it out of readiness. so what's happening is, we've had to cancel all our training that does not have to do with units going toç ask. so about 80% of the army now, we've had to cancel training events f

army chief of staff, general ray odierno will be telling us how across-the-board budget cuts are affectingilitary and the ability to keep our nation safe. that's still to come on "closing bell." we went out and asked people a simple question: how old is the oldest person you've known? we gave people a sticker and had them show us. we learned a lot of us have known someone who's lived well into their 90s. and that's a great thing. but even though we're living longer, one thing that hasn't changed: the official retirement age. ♪ the question is how do you make sure you have the money you need to enjoy all of these years. ♪ to enjoy all of these years. but i wondered what a customer thought? describe the first time you met. you brought the flex in... as soon as i met fiona and i was describing the problem we were having with our rear brakes, she immediately triaged the situation, knew exactly what was wrong with it, the car was diagnosed properly, it was fixed correctly i have confidence knowing that if i take to ford it's going to be done correctly with the right parts and the right people.
