i want to wish you a happy park and recreation month. it's national park and recreation month. the board passed a resolution declaring the month of july of recreations and park of san francisco. i want to highlight events from the month. at the board of supervisors hearing that that resolution was passed the board recognized 47 teachers that participated in this stewart program. we were thrilled to present these educator with certified of an appreciation and thank them for their great work. our volunteer division and our gardeners to cultivate the next generation. a big shout out to kimberly keefr who run the team for the recreation and park department. last week we sell bralted the yacht harbor and it was a fantastic event. other upcoming events, also as commissioner brul noted, park play ground, we should coordinate these things before we get up here. >> it was saying twice. >> saturday july 20, this is a big -- we had a lot of support from this from the water front community who really drove this project. of san francisco parks alliance has been an important person in adding

the steps we've taken in recent years and the work we're doing provide very much recreational benefits. there has been some concern and it's been expressed lately that the city does not have an overview vision. i think part of the raison is that the plan has been adopted over 15 years ago. we often get this with the downtown plan it was nearly thirty years old. but we still think it's important to honor the plan and the work and the same is true of the waterfront. it's 15 years in planning terms is not a long time. we tend to get a little bit im35ish9 but in terms of implementing a plan 15 years is not that long. its important for me and you to honor the work that creates those plans. i won't go into detail but it establishes a 5 sub areas along the waterfronts. it looks in dlafl over the waterfront and the details over the districts and those 5 sub areas. excuse me. one minute arrest plaintiff. and i think it's important to look at the combination of the waterfront plan that was done and the plans done subject to that. it goes back to the time before the plan was adopted and certainly

(applause) >> these are the unsung heroes that don't get recognized very often, but they are what make our parks work and look the way they do and we are so lucky we have one of the most beautiful parks now right in the middle of pacific heights. but there are two people -- i want to thank a few folks. stefan franz as well, and our friends from prozac that represent our parks department and represent all that we believe in in our neighborhood. thank you for all that you do. and i really in particular today want to single out two folks. phil mentioned the friends of lafayette park and we have certificates of honor for them. but this playground behind us would not have happened without one of the best friends of parks groups in our city of san francisco, and that's the friends of lafayette park. they raised hundreds of thousands of dollars. the plaques are around here and all the people that contributed to it, but there are two people that had the biggest leadership in this, and i want

we've started another program with the recreation and parks department. they obviously have been very successful in getting public bonds since we had the 2000 clean and safe pond and the 2008 bond which is $185,000 and when you look at the other funding sources from states grants, that brings them up to 750,000,000 since 2000. there's things that we found so we're working with them to create a fund to zero in on these particular issues or things that need maintenance of accessible features and working with them hand and hand to hand select these projects that had the greatest need that aren't benefiting from these projects that are in the bond. so we're being given half a million this year and $1.5 million next year and the park department is getting matching funds for $1.1 million during this period. and just to tell you a few of them is -- one is the sharon arts stud s studio. we need to clean up how you get into the building. the golden gate park senior center which had accessible improvements done way in the early 1980s and they need to be brought up
