rec 3 require certification. those folks are the ones that we create a position that requires a certification and they already have that certification, we do recruitment and they come and fill those positions. the next step is 32 83 recreation specialist. most of those folks work in after school. we felt it was important to have parents have the feeling that they were seeing the same face all the time at our after school programs. so, we have a number of those. we also have 32 83s in therapeutic and inclusive recreation working with folks with special needs. and we also are introducing some 32 83 positions to work with our youth force and extreme sports as well. coming up. the 32 86 recreation coordinator positions are the next steps. we have two sort of tracks for those. one is facility coordinator. they are the people who are responsible for our major full-purpose multi-purpose facilities which are similar like to mission rec or st. mary's, [speaker not understood]. we also have recreation program coordinators

it's not a project where rec and park said let's do this. this is a grassroots project and built support step by step in the neighborhood in the department in city hall. this parking lot on 24 accounting street is the location of the farmer's market. it started after real foods shut adopt a number of years ago concerned residents came together to billed their own auction in the neighborhood. and i think people weren't sure lounge the farmer's market would last and year and years later here we go it is one of the few markets that the operated by the local folks. it's truly the town square of the neighborhood. down on 21st street it has no open space other than it's sidewalks. when the ministries determined it needed to sell to finance it's overdue retrofit and renovation. people were afraid we'd lose this critical space so people in the neighborhood came together and started building support to convert it into a public park as a permanent 7 gay day a week town square. they began to raise money and have about a half billion dollars to transfor

and lastly, just a bit over $7,000 of this grant would go to rec and park scholarships, which as you all know is a very important program of the department that allows access to recreation and specifically the department's programming for all san franciscans regardless of their ability to pay. and then the second part of this grant will be used to fund special projects for the department throughout the year and these are generally unexpected expenses and also used to recognize the hard work of rec and park staff. >> do we have park comment? any public comment on item 7? >> good morning commissioners, executive director of the park alliance and on behalf of the board and staff and volunteers and 700 plus people who attended the party last fall, including i think all of you wanted to just acknowledge the hard work of the rec and park department, and the value of this as an example of public-private partnership and highlight value of the ventilation system. it's not very sexy, but it's the kind of thing that a little bit of private philanthropy can go a long way at nursery and at the sa

and park and in-kind grant of $35,000 to support various rec and park projects. this is part of the event held at the angler's lodge. the cash portion would fund three important projects for the department. no. 1 is $15,000 of this gift would go for installing an automatic venting system in the greenhouse in the golden gate park nursery. and this is very important because right now the venting system is manually operated and if there is a temperature change, which there is likely to be in golden gate park, if there is not someone there to open or close the develops, then the temperature in the greenhouse can change dramatically, and that hurts the flourishing of the plants inside. another $10,000 of this gift would go to install two sets of recycling containers in golden gate park, so that visitors have a place to dispose of paper, cans, bottles and other recyclables and thus keep them out of the local landfills. and lastly, just a bit over $7,000 of this grant would go to rec and park scholarships, which as you all know is a very important program of the departm

using funding from the federal transit administration, mta is going to compensate rec and park for both the temporary and permanent loss of parking spaces. they hired an appraiser to determine the value of the parking spaces that will be taken to build the station. and the appraiser used a methodology known as the income approach to value, which looks at the annual net income of the property, as well as an estimate of the value of the property and a capitalization rate. using this methodology, mta's appraiser determined that the value of the temporary use of parking spaces is about $450,000 for that 12 -month period. and that the permanent use of spaces by the garage is worth about a little over $6.6 million for a total of $7,055,000. rec and park has agreed to offset this amount by $67,376 to reflect the value of some improvements that mta is going to make to the sidewalk/curve ramp and traffic signals right on the northwest corner of stockton and geary street. the total amount that the mta proposing is toal, i'm planning to budget this in the budget next year in a project that rec and

i know there n when we were first discussing with rec and park staff would their maintenance folks be responsible for taking care of this? and i just wanted to pull up another image. so this a conceptual sketch that shows how the glass for that glass deck is actually manufactured. so there is a top layer of glass that has a non-slip on it that people actually walk on and just a little bit of air and a center layer of glass and that is the layer that has the artwork. it's a digit image output on film and it's laminated between two pieces of glass and then it's slid in there and it is the central piece of glass. and then there is a bottom layer of glass, which is the ceiling for the station below. so if the surface of the deck is graffitied, the graffiti is not happening on the artwork layer, but the top layer that people are walk on and likewise, if people tried to graffiti from underneath, they would graffiti on the outer layer of glass. i wanted to mention how this artwork would appear both during the day and at night. glass is a reflective tell and during the day, when the sun is sh

we had a great discussion when rec and park was here with their budget update. the fact as our park system as a whole the rec park doesn't raise funds they try their best but ultimately it's a decision for the board and the mayor how we fund our parks department. over the last decade we have moved in the direction of less support where the hospital receives more sports. that speaks vacuumed about the lack of support in this building for operating our parks. we've had a significant number of influxes our personnel for the parks. i asked to add back several park patrol positions. i hope to be able to do that again, this year. i will say with respect to this particular property i don't see the lack of park patrol being an issue because this is a small area integrated into the valley commercial coordinated so i think in terms of maintenance the one real benefit we have two extremely strong and engaged folk and the community benefit district there's a ton of work that have a huge incentive to make sure this is maintained properly. i think we will be able to maintain
