and these were, there were launches from the red sea and way out here in the arabic sea, and you talks that are so far removed from the target site that there is no ability for anybody up here to wage a counterattack on the ships out there. now, there is another interesting point to bear in mind in terms of the targets here. the cruise missiles that were most heavily relied upon in the western area where the first attacks occurred why might that be? there is one real reason, the syrian military and government are strongest over in this part of the country. they have genuine anti-aircraft defenses. so flying jets in here is far more perilous than bringing them over in here. and we did see much more aircraft activity in the second strike zone and in the third strike zone over here. and the aircraft that were involved were really very impressive. an array of some of the most advanced aircraft in the world including the f-22 which saw the first battle here. this is a stealth aircraft that actually carries the missiles inside so it presents a smaller area in terms of hiding them. they cost

the sea assets include the arleigh burke, which is in the red sea. what can you tell us?can you con tex youize for us in terms of the scale of this attack and its likelihood of success. >> it will be quite substantial. the thing is we've known where all of this stuff has been for quite some times. we don't have a lot of human intelligence on the ground, and whether or not it's going to be successful will be easy to tell after the strikes occur. how that's going to affect overall the campaign for isis by what it's doing in syria and iraq, that remains to be seen. logistical facilities and other troupe concentrations, the easiest to dispurse are the troupes. they're going to be hit -- the loss of them is going to be most telling on isis. we'll see what happens after the bombed damage assessment comes out. i don't think that you can expect that just those 20 strikes are going to be launched. other movements to hit subsequently, there's a plan to do that. >> colonel jack jacobs, jack, if you would bt mind staying with us for a moment, i want to go live to the pentagon right n

for us in the united states, this means iran would have an influence on the red sea and that would put a lot of jeopardy of our activities in the region. the northern tip you have suez canal, the southern tip is where all the world entire economy flows from that part. >> this coming at a time when secretary of state kerry has suggested we work with iran to help defeat isis. >> there is something happening that washington that we are wishing that iran is going to help us against the terrorists. what iran is doing is taking advantage of us being busy with isis, then scoring points advancing the region. >> what do you make of kerry's suggestion we work with iran? >> it would be very wrong to suggest that we could be associates with iranian forces coming in to iraq operating in sunni areas. this would inflame the sectarian divide if the middle east much deeper than what it is right now. >> so iran is the bigger picture. it has been suggested by many that isis is really just a side show, as much as all of our attention is on it. that the bigger problem here is iran and its nuclear ambition.
