usually there's a dropoff in rehoboth beach. that's what we're dealing with. he water is at the level of the sand. that's not normal for rehoboth. it's not a big deal in rehoboth because rehoboth sits higher up than some of the other delaware beach towns, dewey beach, for example, sits down lower. sometimes within the water goes up from the ocean, it come s up from the inland bay. lewes is also the same, the town of lewes up high. there's a canal and marina. if you go east towards the beach, it sits lower. it's prone to flooding. both of these areas, so far, so good. we talked to some people who said you know what, it's not as bad as it could have been. take a listen. >> i'm more thankful, more thankful that it wasn't as bad as it sounded like it could be. >> the weather started out really bad but it ended up fantastic. >> yes, pretty fantastic yesterday and certainly today it's not going to be too, too bad. probably not going to be able to go into the ocean. indian river inlet, the surfers will probably want to go into the ocean. there is a lot of this coating

by 10:00 in the morning, some stronger winds, 34-mile-an-hour winds possible at rehoboth beach. and tidal flooding is going to be an issue as we head into saturday night. this is 9:30 in the evening. 29-mile-an-hour wind gusts at the beach and high tide right around 10:00, could produce some minor flooding right along the coast. but the back bays are going to run into flooding issues over the next couple of days. and through the holiday weekend, the rip current threat will be evaluated. the worst of it, saturday, sunday, and labor day, monday. dangerous r dangerous rip currents. if you're hitting the water on the boat, rough seas, dangerous conditions. it might be okay just looking at it, but the danger lurking in the water. as far as skies, nice and clear right now, but you can see the clouds that are just to the south and the rain already reaching into north carolina. it hasn't reached virginia just yet, but the clouds are already increasing in norfolk, and the stopper is moving to the northeast at 18 miles an hour. that's going to take it right across the carolinas, with 5 to

on a normal day in rehoboth, the beach goes out about another 20 feet and drops down really low. hat happens is the water is very hey. here's the good news for rehoboth. rehoboth sits higher than some of the other towns. you go up the road in lewes, you have low spots down by the beach, the cape henlopen. dewey, the inland bay sometimes meets up. they meet up with the ocean and you have a breach like we had dlu during the blizzard in january. there are going to be swimming concerns today. we'll talk more about that in the next half hour. swimming concerns and other concerns and certainly business owners want you to come back to the beach. if you didn't come down because you thought the storm is worse than it was, they're hoping to squeeze out a good last day of the summer season. we'll talk more about all these things in the next couple hours. live on the boardwalk in rehoboth beach, tim furlong, nbc 10 news. >>> island beach state park will re-open for labor day. governor chris christie made that announcement yesterday. he said park visitors should be very mindful of rip currents

we caught up with the head of the rehoboth beach patrol this morning who made the call to ban swimming. most lifeguards will be done for the season starting tomorrow. >>> the impact from the storm could linger for a few more days at the shore. nbc 10 first alert meteorologist sheena par convenient is here now with the latest. sheena? >> yeah, jacqueline, hermine still remaining very far offshore and the newest track continues to mainly bring it up to new england so i think this will mostly be a storm for new england now, but it is expected to weaken and still very far away from us. it will still be increasing our rip currents as we go through tonight and tomorrow. so here's a look at hermine, right. the center is where you see the "l" so it's still very far offshore and notice it's gotten closer. the cloud cover has gotten closer and the rain closer and still offshore and now we're putting it motion. rain bands spinning offshore and staying offshore. cloud cover more into our coastal areas and the delaware beaches today. not so much inland so it has continued to be a nice day inland. w

by hour futurecast winds shows at 11:00, the strongest winds for atlantic city, wildwood and rehoboth beachuld see flooding at the shore and for the delaware beaches, even the back bay is potential flooding as we head into the late morning and very early afternoon. then the winds will be elevated but the tides will be coming down. the flood threat will decrease during the late afternoon hours. there's a potential for another round of flooding late in the evening. the winds will continue to die down as hermine stays in the neighborhood just offshore, just close enough to spin some clouds into the area. satellite shows those clouds along the coastline this morning. you will get breaks of sunshine but there's the rain way offshore. stays dry for our area and mainly dry at the shore. that's going to inch a little bit closer to the storm but the chance of showers, the heavy stuff is all going to stay offshore. there's hermine, 70 mile-an-hour winds moving to the north at 3 miles an hour. that's definitely slower than yesterday. here's the futurecast that shows the spinning that will continue as

for us we are underneath a tropical storm watch from surf city to atlantic city and rehoboth beach. ocean city, maryland updated to a tropical storm warning. here is the latest, right now a tropical storm winds sustained at 50 miles per hour and moving northeast at 15 miles per hour. it is expected to ride over the carolinas today and off the shore of the atlantic coast. once that occurs, and we do have the storm moving off the mid-atlantic coast. it will essentially stall out south and east of atlantic city and southeast of jersey as well. and a change, a windshield wiper effect until the storm moves offshore. this is the latest and update. as it moves off the coast, from sunday the winds with this storm are 65 miles per hour, but by monday it reaches hurricane strength to 75 miles per hour so that is the update and that is the change it goes from tropical storm strength to hurricane strength across our region and this could have an impact across our region especially at the coast. this is what we are calling for prolonged on shore winds saturday night right through sunday, gusts u
