>> director's report. >> director reports good afternoon director reiskin i have a lengthy report today good afternoon board and members of the public and staff first of all, i'm very excited and want to introduce our new director of the sustainable streets of the sfmta tom ma i didn't really that joined us a week this is thomas taking the position that of held previously by a person that retired earlier this year and jerry robin's who was filling in and tom was before coming here on assistant commissioner for the new york city director of transportation and during the mind he oversaw bus rapid transit and parking and alternative fuels program and has been working on road and street pricing since a number of years ago to look at the pricing in manhattan in 2007 he led the agencies program for a technology program to approve traffic safety and the strategy plan i know from talking to the former commissioner of transportation she really credits a lot of the great things that happened in new york and in transportation with the planning process and started with mayor bloomberg's program for

. >>> hi, john nolan, mta board members, director reiskin. my name is jeff learner. i represent one of the owners [speaker not understood] on bayshore boulevard. the proposed 9 san bruno move from where it is currently directly in front of our parking lot floor craft to directly in front of our neighbor, the liquor store and smoke shop next to our garden center, is going to be a negative impact to both our neighbor and our garden center business, taking away needed parking spots. where it is located now is out of the way. they can have multiple buses queue. i see that often. where it's going now is going to cause a huge logjam, plus buses coming down cortland, turning onto bayshore boulevard, electrified buses, their lines come off constantly. so, this is a huge safety concern. i mean, i understand that the goals of the mta, of speeding things up are important, but they don't always consider the goals and challenges that small businesseses have here in san francisco and making it more difficult for our customers, our vendors ~, our neighbors's customers and vendor to

as director reiskin mentioned are profitableable we're at the corner where one appreciable accidents happened it's incredible to see the city put in a signal to help prevent collisions and lower the speedometer on this boulevard and have signals on all intersections those are the sort of projects that community members want to see more of you know that engineering piece of vision zero. i also wanted to highlight as many others did that campaign xab that and chief suhr have been incredible they've been here on sunset to make sure the enforcement is happening. as we head to november walk san francisco we support of the geobonds and this is the central piece to achieving vision zero. i want to thank personally the mayor and supervisor tang for this bond it couldn't come soon enough and encourage all san franciscans to support sfm this bond going forward and no families and no families and citizens have to endure another accident in san francisco we know their prosperityable we we can prevent them through this bond and coordinate the actions across the city departments i look forward to

. >> can i ask director reiskin a question? >> sure. >> because of potential problems we may have, it is possible to make that a temporary stop, not the bulb out yet, at the expense of the bulb out to see if operation can make that turn? is there a back-up? if it's true it does create that problem, then we can back away as opposed to spending the money to put the bulb in there and find out there is a problem, these disappear. >> yeah, i think if the board were to legislate this today then we would have the authority to go ahead and do the bulb. we do look at doing it as a temporary bulb of some sort. we haven't found a good way to do temporary bulbs without incurring, incurring some costs. we looked at a number of different solutions, sidewalk extensions, somewhat akin to park lets, but we have some a-d-a issues we'd have to resolve. but for maybe a short-term trial we could see just through -- with paint and some delineation possibly doing some sort of temporary installation at that one location. we have -- so the answer is ye

and that finishes my comments, i didn't know if director reiskin? >> just a couple of quick points, i think line under the surface, and i think that director lee made some reference to it and maybe something that we can bring forward at the next meeting here. and maybe in like the planning department, and is what is the long term and what is the 50 year vision for the 4th and king? what is the ultimate disposition and because i think that director lee was correct, that we will be as part of this process there will be trade offs and compromise and seems like one compromise of keeping the dedicated platforms will kind of lock in the need for permanent fourth and king facility, where i think that dtx envisions a fourth and townsend underground station which i think that there are difference of opinion on what the long term disposition of fourth and king is. and but the decisions that we are making here, and what assumptions people have of what it looks like 50 years from now, and it will be impacted by the decisions that we are making here and so that

reiskin has a question. >> just to, i think that you spoke clearly about the benefits of the common boarding platform, could you kind of looking at it in the opposite, if we don't achieve it, how do you see that impacting the operation of the transit center? >> it will be less we will not be able to get the full number of trains, it will work in the interim, i think, and it is going to be very restrictive for the cal train and difficult. you know, there are things that need to be worked out or we should not be concentrating on the reasons why not. but obviously, that last picture that you see assumes that we have the same kind of operating system. and we don't even have that, yet. and we have restricted areas like an airport, for the high speed rail and free access to cal train. and on the proof of payment system and we are different. people who want high speed trains, have a different prescribed seat, now have you to do some policing for people who try to break the law. it is constricting, if you are trying to get six trains a hour, which they will really like, not just five, it is impossib

portland and wondering are a all members and the current president is our transportation guy edward reiskin and this is being held tent on the other hand, at the end of this month they have particular and educate challenges in designing safe streets we've learned unfortunately san francisco still suffers from bad road designs decisions made in the 950s that make the streets dangerous for pedestrians and bicyclists encouraging speeding helping to you fuel the especially desk injuries we have foifrnd our commitments for the major problems would the pedestrian accidents and the collisions a great work is happening for long term and near consortiums with the goal of reaching no pedestrian deaths on our streets vision zero we have to make sure we're doing everything we can to make the streets as safe as possible the education and enforcement and engineering is important this legislation addresses the third e by adapting best practices and urban street design by making streets safer for everyone specifically administrative native code is san francisco's best street policy establishing the cities

happy news i was honored to join, reiskin and other official to welcome, the u.s. secretary of transportation, cox and he came to announce the 100 million letters of grant of which sfmta was awarded $9 million to expand the muni bus fleet. this will pay for 12 motor coaches adding capacity to routes, such as the bay shore and the 38 x, geary (inaudible) as part of the moving forward project and so congratulations sfmta and we can't, we can't get the buses soon enough and i know that there is quite a bit of demand, seeking more capacity on those lines, in parallel, a $13 million prop k grant is at work to support sfmta in conducting additional planning and design of the routes and so we are plowseded to partner with sfmta. he's visionary leader and accomplished a tremendous amount and he inspired and excited and challenged us on many fronts and we hope to live up to the award that they need to do the transport and policy in 2012, and we received the 50 sustain able transportation award i want to thank you for joining us on the bike tour and the mission streets event

. >> director reiskin? >> the rider ship term is pretty impressive and stunning in cal trans. it is certainly i don't know a victim of its success. but i think that there is nothing to suggest if you looked at the planned bay area that that trend will reverse. and so, understanding that thinking of about the fact that we are making what is at least in our building 100 year investment, you mentioned, the goal of 6 trains per hour, and or the plan for six trains per hour, and how do you see that working if we don't achieve comment platform heights, and we have one platform at the transbay transit center. there are two or three stations on the cal train system that will be greatly linked to the high speed rail and the majority of the stations, do not have any high speed rail stops and so we are going to talk about... (inaudible) and the new downtown transit center and i think that the best for all of us is to find a way to make it. and i think that with the change to a level boarding for cal train, at the other stations will greatly enhance our capacity but as he said, the choke
