renee is telling her side of the story in a letter forwarded to nbc 10. the anchor was referenced in the criminal complaint against her husband. she's labeled as person e and an affiliate of the fattah enterprise in the indictment. they allege she and her husband took part in a scheme to sell her car in order to pay closing costs on a vacation home. she says she has done nothing wrong and nbc 10's deanna dur ran tee reports. >> reporter: they say they used money to help secure a mortgage on this poconos vacation home. he describe she says the car was her second car. she sold it to a family friend but for several reasons the car remained at their home. the feds say the friend is a lobbyist and former finance director during fattah's 2007 campaign run for mayor. they say the sale was a bribe to fattah in order to get the girlfriend's a job and him considered for a federal appointment. she claim he continued to register the car and kept it in her garage for more than 20 months after the sale occurred. she denyied it was illegal and explains why the car remai

>> rene washington standing ready, we saw that with the navy yard incident. you're on the mall can you see the security measures? >> i can tell you, brianna, just by being out here it is clear we're in a period of high alert just within the last hour we witnessed law enforcement essentially tighten their control around this area surrounding the capitol. they have now extended the perimeter about three blocks from the capitol. before earlier, we saw people milling around this area but that's no longer the case again, extending that perimeter out for about three blocks. we've seen canines out here we know capitol hill police saying they have strategically positioned their officers throughout the grounds here you can see there's fencing up concrete barriers metal barriers. we also know that federal agents who are usually off for this holiday, they are on call. so we clearly feel that this is a sense or time of high alert. tomorrow in this very section of the capital we know that there will be hundreds of thousands of people weather permitting gathering here for

rene marsh joins me with more on this. rene, what have you learned? i can tell you this is a rare situation we are following here. the faa has confirmed that midair collision between an f-16 fighter jet and a small cessna. this happened about 11 miles north of charleston, south carolina, a short time ago. an official close to the investigation telling me there are no survivors in that cessna. we know wreckage of the cessna is now in a river in that area. we don't know how many people are on board. we values learned that the pilot of the f-16 was able to eject safely. i can tell you, the ntsb is now enroute to this accident site. they won't arrive there until later this evening but when investigators get there, they're going to be working to try to determine were these planes flying in the correct airspace were they authorized to be where they were. air traffic control, was air traffic control talking to the pilots? all of that is going to be assessed once investigators get there because this i can't stress is going to be a very rare situation where yo

>> rene marsh, thank you.g in cnn military analyst, retired general mark hertling. >> we've talked about the law enforcement role, the police departments and so forth. but i wonder, is there a military role this weekend that likely we're not seeing in protecting some of these sites? >> certainly not yet. this is all related to something called -- federal forces, u.s. military cannot get involved in these kind of security actions with the police. now, you could -- a governor could call. the national guard if was an extreme emergency and that's hasn't happened yet and it's difficult to defend against soft targets. we have air force flying cap all over the united states, that's always happening, combat air patrols in case of some incoming aircraft or something they and they react that way. soft targets are hard to defend against. >> that's a term we talked about after 9/11, on that day. let me ask you about not just the law enforcement role of military but the target element. i mean, being out in public this week
