but the real focus has been on el reno. you can see that we had very strong wind gusts, a lot of lightning as well. but let's break down the time line. at 10:26 local time, a tornado warning was issued. one minute later at 10:27, the tornado sirens started to go offe off. two minutes later at 10:29, that is when we started to see some of the damage as the tornado made it down to the ground. when we look at all the damage that you can see on the other side of your screen, a lot of this damage is consist i wante e ef-3, the same rating of the tornado six years ago. you will have walls and roofs torn off and a lot of trees uprooted and heavy cars that can be lifted and thrown several feet away. again, we have a lot of those images showing that. one thing to note with this particular one, why it was so dangerous, because it happened at night when people are sleeping. but in fact 37% of all the tornadoes that oklahoma gets are actually at night. so it is not out of the question. i know we heard that woman say and you've heard it

right here this is the town of el reno as it was moving through. let's where he dobreak down the. 11:26 eastern time, 10:26 central time, tornado warning was issued. one minute later the sirens went off at 27 past the hour. and then just two minutes later at 11:29 eastern time, that is when you really started to have a lot of the damage begin to come in from the town of el reno. so you are talking minutes here that really made the difference as this tornado ripped through the area. one other thing to note, this was a nocturnal tornado meaning it happened at night, people are sleeping, they are unaware. 37% of all the tornadoes that take place in oklahoma are actually nocturnal tornadoes. so again, keep that in mind and that is where we end up getting the highest fatalities because people are asleep. and this is only one of nine possible tornadoes yesterday. and again, we had over 100 total storm reports. but this is where we expect to move forward. we expect a skreer weathevere w texas, oklahoma, kansas and across the midwest and mid-atlantic. >> s

all of this unfolding here in the town of el reno, oklahoma, which is about 20 miles east or west.ound we're on a street called elm street. you walk this way. it's a small country road just north of interstate 40, and about a mile down this way, this entire small road, is flooded out by water. just over here over the last few hours we saw three swift water rescue teams deployed boats out in their -- out into this water and just beyond these tree lines here, kate, there were a number of families who were trapped in their homes. ten people in all, including four children were pulled here to dry land this morning. we spoke with several of these family members who say they went to bed last night and heavy rainfall started pouring overnight and when they woke up about 5:00 this morning central time, they found themselves on a little island. they were surrounded by water, and that's when they started calling for help. it takes several hours for all of these rescue teams to get to these homes. they are behind these tree lines, so it's impossible to see here at this point. those families s
