reno pond reno police and firefighters say just before 3:30am the man fell through the ice at a pond at teglia's paradise park. rescue crews say the man was in the water for about half an hour before being pulled out. the washoe county hasty team helped city crews. he died after being taken to a hospital. his name has not been released. the incident is still under investigation. let's go to lindsey matherly with a look at the forecast. quiet weather expected today before another weak pacific storm moves through late tonight into saturday with accumulating snowfall expected across the sierra and light snow possible across western nevada. a couple more weak storms are possible next week with temperatures remaining below normal. current ir satellite imagery showing a widespread area of low stratus across much of western nevada. some of the decks have through the carson valley this morning with visibility at the minden airport having already dipped near 1/4 mile. some clearing is evident across lassen trafficking- a carson city man accused of human trafficking in north dakota has plead not guilty. kevin fleming... is accused of offering a 14-year-old girl for prostitution. in court yesterday flemings attorney argued that state lawmakers repealed the human trafficking portion of state law under which fleming is charged... and that a new law didn't take effect until after the alleged crime. prosecutors called the argument ludicrous. another person from las vegas also charged with human trafficking in the case plead not guilty. police found the teenage girl at a hotel in mynot in april of last year.. after receiving a report about her from her mother in las vegas. an investigation is underway to track down the thieves who broke into a communal mailbox in a stead neighborhood. stealing mail is a federal felony, punishable by two years the mailboxes in stead are being replaced with stronger, more secure units and residents are being told to pick up their mail at the stead post office in the meantime. if you have any information about this theft, you can call the postal service's national tipline or secret witness at 322- 4900. a new report has ranked nevada dead last for education. education week released a report yesterday... that shows nevada performing significantly worse than the national average in several areas... including student performance and school financing. the state earned an overall d grade while the country as a whole earned a c. nevada's overall score slightly increased... but it still fell behind mississippi... which was previously ranked last. nevada interim superintendent steve canavero called the results "disheartening".... but said recent investments in public schools haven't had a chance to pay off yet. state lawmakers increased public school last year. they also made several reforms... including a rule that students can no longer be promoted to fourth grade unless they can read. today anim a meeting will be held today to discuss overcrowding in washoe county classrooms. the district's "overcrowding and repairs committee" will analyze the money and needs for any new construction. six schools are facing a projected 120 percent increase over the next few years. last month, the school board voted to keep those schools on a balanced calendar until the 2017-18 school year. a district judge has delayed his decision on whether nevada should pay thousands of dollars to parents for private school tuition. judge james wilson says more time is needed to consider the preliminary injunction. education savings accounts payments are scheduled to begin february first. parents can use the money to pay for private school tuition or the child's state education funding. a suit filed in august claims the new law violates nevada's constitution which requires funds to be used for public schools.### shot ots thanks to a 65-thousand dollar grant from the nevada office of traffic safety... the reno police department has new equipment that helps them analyze traffic accidents. the new equipment is called 'faro'. it can take an image, in 360 degrees-- rendering that image in 3-d form. it takes a matter of minutes as opposed to the old system, which could take hours. but perhaps the biggest impact-- is the new system can be used in a courtroom. sotvo sgt. joe lever, reno police department"it is a lot easier for the jury and judge to see what happened there that night or that day when the accident occurred. therefore making that person responsible, for lack of better term, pay for what they did." the old system would only render an image in 2-d, and also required double the number of free up officers... back on patrol. ### ... and they're coming to the wilbur d. may museum.
