right now let's head over to richard jordan standing by with breaking news on 395. richard. >> reporter: good morning. the traffic is starting to pick up so things are getting a little dicey here southbound on i-395 near edsall road. you can see that overhead sign, the bottom right corner has been cut off because earlier today. it's going to pass underneath, apparently clip the bottom end of that sign. causing slight damage. crews are working to secure the sign. the light that runs underneath the sign has also been damaged. right now crews are just trying to make sure that it is safe for drivers to go underneath the sign. so that has caused a few problems here. the southbound lanes of 395, only two lanes are open at this point. the left two lanes. traffic is moving past. but as traffic starts picking up, it's starting to get a little slower for traffic coming southbound, northbound also has some rubberneckers taking a look. causing slight delays there as well. you can get off on edsall road if you're heading southbound on 395. what you can't do is the reverse. the on

richard jordan has our report from there. richard. >> reporter: hey, jim. that victim appears to have been shot in the head. police say he is about 40 years old. he never stood a chance. never made it to the hospital. he died almost instantly here. we'll give you a better shot. not going to get too close, the body is uncovered right now. crime scene investigators have just made their way to the scene. they're examining the body now for the first time. police say that this victim was standing near a bus bay, the covered portion of the bus bench. this happened at 9:30 tonight. accord to some people who happened to see the gunman, just after the shooting, they say he took off running and went right through the temple hills metts . 220 pound. blue jeans, black hoody. police trying to track him down. they don't have any other information at this point. to go off of. they don't even know exactly what went on between the two men, if there was a confrontation. at this point it is not even clear what the victim may have been doing here. if he was waiting for the bus

richard jordan is standing by with more. od morning, richard. >> reporter: yeah, this has been going on all morning long. and road crews are still out here trying to make repairs to an overhead sign. you see a good chunk of it has been removed. earlier today a dump truck was trying to clear under that sign. unfortunately, didn't make it, clipped the sign. caused damage there. to illuminate the sign has also been damaged as well. both crews have been working to clear the sign. in the meantime, the two lanes that go underneath have been closed just as a precaution. that means that there are only two left lanes on 395 south that are moving to traffic at this point. you are hitting the brakes if you are coming this way just to slow down as you approach this scene here but traffic is getting by southbound. you can also get off on edsall road off of 395 suit if that's your plan. what you cannot do however is get on to 395 to hit the beltway on edsall road because that on-ramp has been closed. keep that in mind. reporting live in al

richard jordan joins us from washington hospital center with more ways to beat the heat. hi, richard. >> hi, erika. the hospital here says they have not seen a spike in heat-related illnesses yet. doctors want to make sure that people don't become victims to the heat. they say the most important thing to remember is to have water. the blazing sun likely brings a triple-digit day. a lot of people with water in hand, but some runners prefer to get a head start to beat the heat. >> people don't drink enough the day before and that's where they get dehydrated and start losing conscious and what not. >> reporter: the excessive heat can be dangerous. health experts say everyone should stay indoors and limit their time in the sun. drink plenty of water wear light, loose weight clothing and check on neighbors that may be at risk or without air conditioning and keep children and pets indoors. this doctor from washington hospital center says heat exhaustion and heat stroke are a serious threat with consecutive days of excessive heat. >> if you are vomiting, can't keep fluids down an

i'm richard jordan. >> i'm erica gonzalez in for angie goff. we'll be going until 10:30 this morning. so stay with us for that. we're talking about this massive storm that seemed to blow in out of nowhere. our meteorologists were tracking it from chicago yesterday, in a matter of a couple of hours it came into our area and caused deadly destruction. >> the winds were up to 70 miles per hour. that's hurricane force winds that blew across the area and really no one was unaffected. just about every single part of the region was covered at some point. there were two deaths associated with this storm. a woman died after a tree fell on to her home. that was over in falls church, there was also a driver in west springfield that died after a tree crushed a car there. >> in prince jornl george's coue winds ripped off the roof from apartments in riverdale displacing hundreds of residents. in d.c. downed power lines sparked a car fire sending two to the hospital. it all came after a day of record breaking heat across the region. just sweltering heat. and

news4's richard jordan has a look at a few of the swimmers. >> jim and wendy, get this, one of the most talked-about swimmers is 15 years old. yesterday she almost qualified for the olympics, but missed her shot. it's not over yet, her best event is still to come. these swimmers are gearing up, but the team is short by one 15-year-old katy la decke. she trains, she has had been eye on london. coach tim kelly is one of her trainers. he says he saw her potential from the start. >> every day she comes to the pool with a purpose. that's been -- we've been watching her since she was 8. >> there's a strong showing at the olympic trials. 19 of the club's swimmers are competing in omaha. >> these athletes are good athletes. the times are just half-seconds apart. so you can never tell. >> reporter: there were other areas at swimmers at trials. matt mclean had a good finish. dave green coaches at the rockville swim club. eight of their swimmers are at trial. jack conger will swim tonight. >> he's probably one of the top three swimmers in hi age group in the country. quite possibly one of the top
