we begin with breaking news out of richmond. police say a suspicious package has forced the evacuation of hundreds of people at the federal building on nevin avenue near 12th street. the call came in just after 10:00 a.m. you can see from newschopper2, a large area has been blocked off. police say the social security office received a package that appeared to have metal and wires instead. as a precaution, the building and some nearby homes have been evacuated while the uc berkeley bomb squad investigates. the robot went inside the building just about ten minutes ago. as you can see from the live pictures from newschopper2, there are a few vehicles there who are dealing with this investigation. a suspicious package found at the social security building in richmond. this is the stoifer we'll continue to -- story we'll continue to follow. if we have any new developments for you, we'll bring them to you. >>> the deadline for b.a.r.t. and the union to reach a contract agreement came and went at midnight. despite no new contract, b.a.

abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield joins us live from richmond. amy?reporter: eric, we are seeing progress. chevron just sent this truck you have seen behind me. they are going to siphon the leaking propane gas from the tank that's like on its side on the road into this truck, before they clear everything out of here. the tank is still leaking. it's got about 4500 gallons of propane inside of it and firefighters describe it as a slow, small leak. but they say it is still leaking here at carlson boulevard in richmond right next to interstate 80. they did test the air. they found small amounts of propane seeping out but they are going to be testing it again. >> we will be sending another crew in pretty shortly here to get an update on our air monitoring. we want to make sure even though we got to monitoring levels earlier, especially if proximity to the freeway, that we don't get any additional leak or anything that escalates. so we are going to get an update on that monitoring pretty quickly here. >> reporter: they have evacuated the we were side of the
