a few pockets of slightly heavier rain for far western portions of contra costa county right over richmond. this activity is sliding toward the east. some showers in the diablo range in the santa cruz mountains just adding more moisture to soil that is already saturated. you can see this band of rain moving into the northbay. how much have we picked up so far? it is nice to see the sun peeked through. one of the measurement points of the santa cruz mountains picked up more than 6 inches of rain. going to this, we expected on a widespread basis an inch and half to 3 inches of rain and generally that is where things have ended up. a little bit less for san francisco and san jose but well over 1 inch of total rainfall. we are not done yet. the next system will be heading our way on saturday. there is a slight risk of excessive rainfall which means that the rain, while it will not be as intense as this past system, it will be enough to lead to the threat of localized flooding. i will have more details on that coming up . anne makovec is in the newsroom tracking some damage from the storm. >> t

storm arriving this morning, and we're still seeing lingering showers in marin county, now moving to oakland as well as richmond. we now have a severe thunderstorm warning near sacramento that continues f the next 15 minutes. if you have to call and check on them. we have a tornado warning in effect to the east of modesto, and that is also producing a lot of lightning as that storm moves through the bay area. it really intensified once it moved over to the sacramento valley, and we're seeing a steady line of cloud-to-ground lightning, winds and intense rainfall. that's what we're dealing to the east of us. that was that initial line that moved through, knocked down all of those trees and power lines in the bay area, even produced lightning. g any lightning strikes here locally, but we will still have that chance as we go into today. this is a series of numerous storms. we're looking at waves of rain coming in. it's also going to bring in colder temperatures and the threat of severe weather will continue. at 9:30 we're seeing intense rain in parts of the north bay with pockets of it elsewhere, and then we contin

pockets of heavier rain picking up and moving into parts of the north bay from marin county right across the richmond-san rafael bridge. for the east bay, it is widespread with a few areas where you see the darker green, the heavier rain that's moving through. and we're definitely seeing that now over the santa cruz mountains, reaching more saratoga and eventually making it toward san jose, with lighter showers for morgan hill to gilroy. so we are still looking at waves of rain coming in, all of this moisture pushing across the bay area, and at times it does pick up quite a bit as it taps into that deep tropical moisture. another atmospheric river moving in with bay area rain and sierra snow that's really reducing the visibility in those areas. all of this drawn in by the center of this storm, the area of low pressure we're seeing there and the clouds reaching in. so we're going to have several hours of all of this activity continuing for the rest of today. take a look at the conditions right now in oakland as you're out for a drive and having to deal with the windshield wipers all the way on, as wel

also seeing some fairly breezy conditions for the rest of marin county right around the richmond center fell bridge around san quentin. we have a 36 mile per hour. current winds a little bit calmer up into the northeastern section of the bay. really nice and calm for you in vallejo while making their way down the bayshore seeing some breezy spots. alameda. 26 miles per hour. burlingame, 32 miles per hour into the south bay. a little bit calmer down there. you're more sheltered by the santa cruz mountains. so not seeing quite as breezy of conditions into the santa clara valley. there's our next round of rain that pushes through, as i mentioned, really around 06:00am for much of the north bay heavier pockets. there. and from 6 to 7 to 8 for the peninsula and eventually into the east bay. this is going to be a quick burst of heavier rainfall. so it's not going to sit around and linger with us. that's really good news. it's going to push and you'll notice it for sure. but it moves out to moderate showers after that. for the remainder of the morning, we will see heavy pockets in there and th

a lot of this just rolled through san francisco, sandra fell and marin county, a good portion of it and over to spots like richmond, where you can see right now, some of this here in orinda, they're kind of getting some of that lightning and thunder storm action there to where you see the heavier orange kind of colors popping up. so this is where the action is right now heading towards concord out to places like walnut creek. you can see some of this too. so the problem with this system and the reason why it has been warned to the way it has is that these are popping up quickly because this is a very strong system. and when that happens, you get these storms that have wind associated with them. incredible. a downdraft, an updraft associated with them and they just raced across very quickly. now it's good that they race quickly because if they stayed in one place, all of that rain coming down over one spot would be more harmful than if it races through quickly. but it is flash flooding, meaning it could happen in an instant. so this is why throughout this afternoon, it's imperative that you keep your eye to the sky

we're also seeing pockets of heavy rain right around the richmond center fell bridge this morning and in portions of northern solano and napa counties most of the rest of us, it's on the moderate side of things. again, santa cruz mountains saw some very heavy rain and some of our strongest winds last night gusting likely well in excess of 70 miles per hour. so as the sun comes up are likely to see more images of downed trees and even more devastation down there. as for radar up in the sierra nevada, we saw that line of heavy thunderstorms rolling through the central valley had a reported tornado in eastern modesto. that advisory has expired. those heavy thunderstorms now moving up into the sierra nevada, where we're at with our winds. high wind advisories continue through 04:00pm today. i mentioned a peak wind gust at 69 miles per hour, right along the coastline on the peninsula. earlier on this morning that is damaged structures. we do have a report of a apartment building in south san francisco with the roof completely blown off tpof it. so we're definitely already hearing reports of damages from these overnight storms right here.

richmond san rafael bridge. we have flooding westbound as you approach 101. >>> outside of the bay area, santa barbara county seemsetting the worst of the storm right now. nearly the entire town of montecito is under an evacuation order, with areas forced to shelter in place. joining us from ventura , chp close off access into montecito. what are you seeing? >> reporter: i am standing on the 101. that dust just does not happen. the freeway was swamped by the ventura river. you can see the mud that remains here. we are on the edge of this. we do have some pockets of deepwater. we got another heavy band of rain. some of these areas are getting swamped. there were cars that were stuck in this yesterday. fortunately, no one was injured. we have no estimate as to when this will open. meeting making matters worse, the alternate routes around this have also flooded. we are seeing mud flows. chp is telling folks, hunkered down, and stay home until the storm moves through. let's go to video from montecito. they were hit extremely hard. evacuation orders have been put into place for this area and others near santa barbara.

county school district protested tonight outside of school board meeting over stalled contract talks. united teachers of richmond organized the rally outside lavagna dejan middle school. the group says its members have already taken a vote to authorize a strike. they say an increase in salary is a main issue of debate here and argue that the district is not sharing the boost in funding that it received from the state. the state has given our district so much money and they're choosing not to allocate those funds and the way they should be allocated. i have colleagues who are sleeping in a sofa because they cannot afford to rent a one bedroom, one bathroom and the community they love and teaching. the members are also asking the district for shared decision making between educators, administrators and parents. when it comes to their school district has not commented on the labor talks. francisco judge has ruled in favor of releasing the body cam footage stemming from the paul pelosi attack. 11 media outlets , including ktvu s parent company, fox filed a lawsuit against the san francisco district attorney's office
