we begin this evening with rick leventhal live in new york city. rick? >> reporter: we're on 23rd street in the chelsea neighborhood of manhattan. this block still closed between 6th and 7th avenues. the explosion saturday night was behind me on this block, rocked the buildings here, blew out glass, injured 29 people. of course, they found that that was a pressure cooker bomb and they found a second pressure cooker four blocks to the north of us on 27th street that did not detonate. this actually started with another bomb, a pipe bomb that went off in seaside park, new jersey, on saturday morning. then there was another pipe bomb that was found in elizabeth, new jersey, last night. in a backpack with several other pipe bombs. some of them did not detonate. some of the bombs in seaside park did not detonate. they were able to connect these thanks to fingerprints and evidence left behind by the bomber who has been identified as ahmad khan are a rahami who shot this morning. he was involved in a shootout with linden police who were called to a bar because t

rick leventhal on what went down i guess outside that stadium. reporter: right now the city manager of charlotte declares this an extraordinary event to allow a lot more security because of concerns of massive protests. there have been warnings where people disrupt the nfl game today. it did not happen. fans are leaving the stadium. police officers left as well. just two of them left here. many arrived here on bicycles and on one point before the game there were perhaps 100 demonstrators who came up here and were protesting on this far corner over here and there was a line of police officers separating the demonstrators from the stadium itself, the demonstrators left, they walked around uptown charlotte for an hour or two and then they came back. the officers maintain the line to not allow those demonstrators to get any closer to the stadium. so the precautions worked. but the numbers of demonstrators were far less than had been predicted. things have seemed to calmed down since the release of that video footage and other evidence by charlotte po
