rick reichmuth with an update in the fox weather center. rick?the north of that as the storm moves to the north tonight. winds at about 48 miles per hour in vero peach. that's enough to make those trees and palm frawns when down. hurricane force winds and major hurricane in the center that will be very damaging. if we end up with major hurricane winds on shore, that's what's going to cause all of the wind damage. right here tropical storm conditions and red is hurricane conditions. expect to see red, hurricane conditions move within the next hour or two on shore and stay on shore all up and down the florida coast line in throughout georgia and across areas of south carolina. rainfall totals are going to be extreme. lots of florida in the 7 to 10-inch rain. then going in to georgia and south carolina. that's where we will be seeing some spots maybe up to about 15 inches of rain. because of that obviously and the wind we have all the hurricane warnings. i want to point out it goes inland as well, likely see hirk force wind gusts even inland toward

fox news meteorologist rick reichmuth is in the fox weather center, he has the latest where matthew is heading. good evening, rick? >> reporter: good evening. halfway through the trek of southeast florida. mostly done with it. starting to see offshore winds. that is good news. the storm pulling to the north which means away from florida, but because of the way the coastline moves here, it's going to move close and maybe right between savannah and charleston during the overnight hours tonight and tomorrow, midmorning. winds are still at 110. it's a little weaker. we thought that would happen. that is right on the verge of a category 3 hurricane, and the pressure still remaining really low. that tells us there's a lot of energy with the storm and in the last couple images, you see an eye building across the center of the storm. we have a long ways to go. hurricane warnings in effect north of daytona beach to the north carolina, georgia, south carolina, georgia all have this to come. storm surge tonight, areas south of savannah likely to be worse and this coastline is susceptible to storm

let's get right to fox news chief meteorologist rick reichmuth, rick? >> yeah. we are almost done in florida. starting to see offshore winds here around the jacksonville area that will push some of that storm surge away. the storm surge increasing across the coastal georgia area and in towards north carolina. and we are still, last couple of images seeing an eye pop up there at the center of the storm. winds 109 miles per hour. category 2 it has weakened some. we knew that would happen. the pressure is really low. it's a very, very strong storm. a lot of water. a lot of wind. and we have a lot of rain yet to be had. hurricane warnings in effect just from the north of daytona peach. up across areas of just to the north of wilmington, north carolina. this entire area with the hurricane winds yet to come. and the storm surge is about going to be big. worst of it to the areas south of savanna up to around charleston. all of those nooks and crannies and little waterways here are going to be seeing a lot of storm surge flooding. we're also going to be watching the thr

let's go right through fox chief meteorologist rick reichmuth. rick? >> the storm getting very, very close to florida. the a least the strongest of the winds. hurricane force winds getting very close. the center of the storm right there at freeport, bahamas, they have been on the wrong side of the storm, bad side with the strongest winds. we will see a lot of damage out of there. a town of about 25,000 people. winds are at 140 miles per hour sustained and you can see the center of the storm right there. there is an outer wall though, and that is getting very close, around 30 miles from palm beach. palm beach winds in the mid 40's. so a tropical storm force. when you get this red which is very close to getting on shore. we will start to see hurricane force winds, that white that you see there, that's that major hurricane, 140 mile-per-hour winds. this is the future radar, you see the center of this storm here, 3:00 a.m. tonight right here around port st. louisyport port saint . tracked it maybe 5 to 10 miles off to the east. maybe good news if you see t

fox news meteorologist rick reichmuth is at the weather center in new york. good evening, rick, and what can we expect? >> reporter: conditions in florida are certainly getting worse, and we will certainly see impacts in florida. what they are still remains to be seen because the storm is getting close to it and run parallel to it instead of making landfall like we traditionally think of in a storm. this is where we're looking at now in the case of the bahamas. last few images on the satellite look better organized and the latest flight reconnaissance did show the pressure dropping. we're likely see that strengthening happen and we think it will get back to a category 4 storm. we have hurricane watches in effect in the coast of georgia, northern parts of florida and we have hurricane warnings in effect anywhere you see the red from the north miami up towards daytona beach and includes interior sections including orlando. we expect to see hurricane-force winds inland in orlando, the population of the i4 corridor has to watch this. this has the potential to move

let's check in with our chief meteorologist, rick reichmuth standing by in the weather center.talk to us about the movement. >> it's getting really close to shore, the closest we've seen so far during its life span in the u.s. still areas of eastern georgia and south carolina, that's where we've got this going right now, there had been some tornado warnings just to the west of myrtle beach, those have expired, but expected likely to see some more over the next couple hours. all right. there's is a van adjusavannah, of that is tybee island, and the outside of that is the eyewall or center of the storm. there's hilton head. we're about nine miles or so from this -- the worst of it -- strongeste of the winds. we just saw wind gusts of 60-miles-an-hour and this is pulling off towards the north. it does look in the last couple images that it's started to make this a little bit of a right turn and northeast turn if it can make that sharp enough, it would keep it off the coast. it seems unlikely to me that it could make that sharp of a turn. i think we're going to be seeing at least t

and meteorologist rick reichmuth following the fox weather center. rick, good evening to you.ditions at this hour are what? >> they are getting worse. because it's getting closer to the storm. and we don't know when and if it makes landfall because it's going to be moving parallel to the coast line which means it's a lot more real estate to do damage to as it moves up the florida coast line. center of it there is just at this kind of northern tip here. just around freeport. freeport and bahamas has been hammered for about the last hour right inside the i wall. 48 mile-per-hour winds tropical storm force. take a look. a couple of i walls. see the center one collapse on it because of that. winds have weakened down to 140 miles per hour. don't be fooled by that tightening of it actually just pushes the wind field out more. i will tell you west palm beach right there. this eye wall is 25 miles per hour away. likely winds in excess of 100 miles per hour with this one. get ready for this to be moving on shore as this storm pulls off towards the northwest. this is future radar of it.

rick reichmuth, thank you very much. >> charleston definitely floods. >> you can take a buggy ride in charleston, and it's a tour of the flooded area, the historic flooded areas. they say oh, it never happens anymore. wait and see. >> hurricane matthew is bearing down on florida, moving back to that state with heavy winds and rains. and a storm surge is expected to rise to 11 feet. more than 2 million people we've told you across the southeast, warned to flee inland. it is the most powerful storm to threaten the atlantic coast lean in more than a decade. it is about 100 miles right now or maybe a little bit more off the coast of south florida. the bands well into the state already. fox 35 orlando is standing by live for us in brevard county. tell us about the conditions there. we can see the wind seems to have pecked up sense we talked to you last. >> reporter: yeah, it's definitely getting a lot worse, heavier rain and gusts. we came to the back of the building because there's more open area. we've been seeing transformers go out here in the background. i was told that a lot of palm

rick reichmuth, how is it looking? >> it it's amazing how long the storm has been with us. in sichb days never made landfall in florida and now we're right here on the south shore of south carolina about to make landfall unless it makes this easterly jog here which certainly seems to me like we would see this make landfall probably -- it could be an hour away. that's the center most point is as it crosses land. you see all the yellow, the heavy rain filled in across much of south carolina. we already have a major flooding situation going on in charleston. we expect to see the second highest flooding situation we've seen in charleston. water has already gone over the batteries. we've got the flooding going on. we've got the biggest storm surge in savannah going on. take a look here. this is the highest here near hilton beach. take a look at these winds, beaufort, 96 miles an hour. hilton head, 83 miles an hour. beaufort, that's about to go up. this little red is going to rotate inland and you're likely to see the winds get into the 80- and 90-mile-an-hour as well. our storm

fox news chief meteorologist rick reichmuth is in the weather center with the latest on this one. wow, what is next, rick? >> yeah. so many people will be impacted by this the direction it is moving will take it across almost all the bahama islands. i think nassau will take a direct hit. moved over haiti and cuba as you said at least not hugely, but a lot of areas with a lot more land mass which means it didn't disrupt it as much. we have category 3 on our hands. likely get back to category 4, either way a major hurricane this is future radar debig shun it, gets going tomorrow night into friday. this particular model shows it just offshore would be great news. the worst side of the storm is on ride side of it. would put worst over here, not as much on the shore. if it goes farther off to the west, that changes everything. nonetheless we'll see troptropical storm force winds as soon as noon tomorrow in south florida. west palm, 6:00 to 8:00 tomorrow night, hurricane conditions from west palm to port st. lucie. the white there is major hurricane during the overnight hours tomorrow ni

check in with chief meteorologist rick reichmuth in the fox weather center. the behavior of the storm is changing? >> not necessarily changing. in fact it has been pretty consistent with this northward movement. moved over haiti and cuba. got disrupted a little bit. now it is back over the warm waters in the bahamas getting its act together a little bit looks like on the satellite representation. weakened a little bit to category 3 storm because of the land interaction. there isn't anything that should cause further weakening. all the conditions are ripe for more strengthening as it moves over the bahama. because of that hurricane warnings in the bahamas, across the florida coast here. sometime late tomorrow into friday morning, expecting to see hurricane conditions on the florida coast. this is a projection, model projection what we expect to see happen. you get the idea. these are winds that are over 90 miles per hour. right here is the florida coast. you get the idea if this goes a little bit farther east we're spared a brunt off florida coastline. a few m

we appreciate it rick reichmuth is outside in the national world giving us a forecast. >> are you safes still solidly hurricane season. we haven't had that much going on. take a look at the maps. i want to talk about this. this is hurricane matthew. overnight it became a category 5 hurricane. it is now a category 4 hurricane. winds are 155 miles per hour sustained. and it's off the north shoreher. it's going to continue to pull towards the west and later on today and tonight making a right-hand turn and making a b line for the western side of jamaica and eastern cuba where i think we will be taking a hit major hurricane. also very close to haiti. certainly a much more problematic thing for haiti and the populist area that we have across the southern peninsula there. then go in towards the bahamas. we will be watching this certainly raking the bahamas for a couple of days. then the u.s. getting very interesting. i will tell you for one thing the western side of that cone, miami, you are in it. so, the eastern shores of florida need to watch this very closely. and one of our reliable mod
