a number of the 2016 republican presidential candidates from jeb bush to rick santorum have all comeut and defended mike pence and the indiana law. tell me a little bit about the politics of this and should 2016 hopefuls be forceful leaders on this issue of religious freedom. tony: i think that is very instructive. that is a great question. in my almost two decades now in politics, i have found that the best indication of where an electorate is is where candidates are. i've actually spoken last week to a number of those presidential candidates, and they are out there almost every day doing artificial focus groups as they meet with people and talk with people. when a politician -- and some of these guys, i'm not going to question their sincerity on these issues because i know many of them and i know they are absolutely sincere, so don't want to cast a dell on where they stand, but when you look at where presidential candidates in this issue are, i do believe it is an indication as to where the american people are. they are out there listening hearing, and reflecting what americans are

iowa is the better opening for ted cruz, my cut could become up rick santorum. they have some built-in advantages. there's going to be a big scrub trying to get out through that to chock a win up in the hawkeye state. charlie: we've had two announcements. ted cruz and rand paul. what is most impressive so far? john: there are two different kind of announcements. cruz's announcement was powerful rhetorically. he gave a great speech. the crowd was there by force. they were students who did not come to that event. the enthusiasm level was lower. he is great on stage. with paul it is harder to george -- to judge. it was a more enthusiastic room. he is not a great orator. when it came to his oratorical athleticism, his ability to command the stage he was not as potent. he is trying to show he is a big time operator. he has an organization and place in iowa welcome in iowa, new hampshire, south carolina, other places that demonstrates organizational muscle. inherited from his father, not entirely, but that is a different kind of strength. charlie: is that what this is

. >> look at rick santorum 2012, he won iowa he was main challenger to mitt romney. other than newt gingrich, but newt gingrich and santorum had trouble getting on ballot in states, you do need that money you can get momentum about then you need money to follow you they could not keep up with romney's money. neil: do you think because so many candidates, at least 8 of dozen, will have at least 15 million dollars maybe more in the case, cruz 30 plus million and rubio 40 million. but all have a significant aim of pocket change that could keep the race going on longer than what would conventionaly be the case? >> i think so because republican are hungry, donors are hungry, whether they like rand paul or ted cruz, they will open up their checkbook to keep these guys in the race. but you do need a lot of money you have to be frugal, we've seen report that hillary clinton campaign is a lot more frugal than 2008. i think if you rally the base, if you have a following a strong following like cruz, paul, and bush with massive fundraising connection that help you i think that
