>> you're the fourth the we had rick scott and -- bill haslam. we're talking pog -- pentagon the great starting point for our conversation. perhaps more than anyone else in our face -- race today you straddle politics and how you play the game in washington but you're a governor and you need to get stuff done. does it look different to you sitting where you are signature here? >> yeah. obviously as governor of the commonwealth of virginia we're the number one recipient of defense dollars. the c.i.a. is in virginia, quantico, so any time we have dysfunction up here it impacts us greatly. just in the last five years we government more than $9 billion in contracts mostly in northern virginia. sequestration is a real problem for virginia. i just left the president's council, five democrats, five republicans and jeh johnson came in and gave us a presentation. it really woke every governor in the room. if. d.h.s. shuts down. even if the d.h.s. has a continuing resolution, you cannot fund the states as they do today. so all our funding for the departmen

it might be scott walker, it might be chris christie, it might be rand paul. i think it might be rickerry. he put out a lot of -- put out a long list of people supporting him. >> you just mentioned scott walker. full-court press, doing all kinds of stuff. he wants to borrow money for roads, cut spending to public universities, to shell out hundreds of millions of dollars on a new basketball arena. his office tried to edit the mission statement for the university of wisconsin. these are all controversial things. he is now getting a lot of scrutiny. my question to you is is walker's record in wisconsin going to be a positive or negative in winning the republican nomination? >> these are all things part of his budget release this week. the local state press is scrutinizing all his presidential stuff. scott walker, you are now out there gallivanting in iowa and elsewhere. i think his record will be scrutinized. there are some successes to it to be sure. but the release of the budget and the fact they were tone deaf about it his staff is going to have a lot of work to do to make this a net

scott walker is learning that pretty quickly. rick perry was, speaking of comments in the context much his own bid in 2012 where he had to get up there and learn that lesson really fast. i think more broadly one of the most interesting things i've been learning from behind-the-scenes at cpac a lot of the other campaigns and operatives not just perry but other conservative candidates are focused on walker and that can be a good spot in terms of polling and fundraising but a tough place to be because the knives are out four. >> jeb bush speaks at 1:30. that will be watched by the national media and a lot of people inside that auditorium. what are we expecting from jeb? >> reporter: everyone around jeb bush has been pretty protective. got a lot of feedback. if you make any comments or reporting on what this will look like for him. i think there are a lot of land mines for him potentially. i think that at this point success looks like getting through it without encountering a major problem. for bush everybody expects to see something alon

. >> we've got governors former governors, rick perry, maybe kasich, scott walker looks more like he'srs cruz -- >> bobby jindal. >> another one. good point. senators cruz, rand paul, marco rubio. and former senators like rick santorum former governor mike huckabee. these are all powerful men and some in very pivotal states. who do you think, you know coming out of the gate scott walker looks good on paper. seems to be polling pretty well. marco rubio seems to have been coming up. rand paul had some good numbers early on. ted cruz is just getting started. who do you think -- you guess some of them -- some will pop and some won't. how do we -- who do you think? >> well, we don't know now. i can tell you where i think the field is today, but i will tell you this, the nature of the field is going to change five or six times between now and next february when they begin voting. and the front runner is going to change more than that. but i think the field is basically two groups of candidates. the candidates who appear to have the ability to do things on a national basis and to be durable a

scott walker did well in that poll. i was struck most by the fact that the two past winners of the iowa caucus was mike huckabee, rick santorumneither one doing well in iowa at all. if you added them up together, they still were short of where scott walker was in the poll. those guys us a tensably should be leading in the iowa poll in the iowa caucuses because they're well known in iowa. the fact they're doing so poorly there, not great. the iowa race is wide open for republicans. >> bad sign for them. overlooked is rick perry. i'm higher on his chances than a lot of people. he's building a good staff. he's out there being aggressive on media and on money. again i say, jeb bush will raise the most money for the republicans by a lot, i asked all the republicans, keep your eye on the ball, the ball is a giant piggy bank. who's going to raise the second most? it might be scott walker, it might be chris christie, it might be rand paul but if you count superpact, it might be rick perry and that's a big deal and he put out a long list of people supporting him to raise money. watch rick perry and money. >> nobody has paid attention
