joining me now is climate reporter, chase cain, live in riverside county. nice to see you, and behind you there, that is a huge mess. >> reporter: yeah, audrey, just a little context on where we are, we'ren i cathedral city, to the east of palm springs, this street bind me, is very clearly covered in mud. several inches of mud right now. there's a truck driving down the road to give you a little bit of context, cathedral city firefighters said at its height, this mud flow was 5 feet deep. that is the reason that they had to rescue 47 people in the course of 24 hours, even this four-wheel drive truck struggling with the mud. everyone they had to rescue, safe and sound right now. it's tough, people who have walked through this, describe this mud like quick sand. it's incredibly difficult to move through. they're not sure how long it's goingo tak thee to clear this mud out, audrey, but, yeah, you were mentioning historic amounts of rainfall. at the san jacinto mountains, nearly a foot of rain down here in the valley. 4.3 inches, that's about nine month's worth
