. >> reporter: good afternoon sar remarks let me set the scene here we are on broad street in riverton and behind me is the car, the station wagon struck by the train and to the left is the river line unit. and moving to the left here we see the crossing at main street that is where the accident occurred. they are referring all questions to new jersey transit. witnesses say though it was about 11:30 when the light rail train struck the older model, gold station wagon. there were do people in that station wagon, an older couple from this small town. >> we were on the train and heard a big thug on the jar and it shook everyone up. and we look out the window and a mercedes benz was stuck on the river line. is he lucky to be alive and it was a serious incident and you can only attribute that to the miracle of god. >> i turned around and heard someone crying and a loud bang and a screeching sound and turned around to see a car being pushed up the tracks. it looks in pretty bad shape. >> we were really scared and freaking out. i mean really scare. >> happening right from front of us. >> you

"eyewitness news" reporter a neat a oh talked to eyewitnesses to rush to help the injured. >> reporter: as gates come down, and the horn signals a warning, cars should roll to a stop but shortly after ten this morning former riverton mayor bill brown saw and heard what happened when a car doesn't. >> i was coming out of my house a block away and heard metal crushing. >> reporter: as new jersey transit train with 35 people on board tried to pull in the riverton stop at broad and main streets. >> we have seen the car coming, i was sitting down in there. >> reporter: witnesses say train collided with a mercedes benz carrying two passengers and dragged it a few feet, trapping the elderly driver inside. >> she seemed disoriented, getting all around i was trying to calm him down to make sure he wouldn't go into shock or something like that. >> he thought he would be alive. they had to cut the top of his car off with the jaws of life and pulled him out. >> reporter: tracie brown was riding i

greg rice and tracy brown watched as their train collided with this gold colored station wagon in riverton. just across the street at the orange blossom cafe they heard the impact and looked out. >> i saw it across the tracks and it looked in bad shape. >> they removed 79-year-old william and his wife who just lived blocks away. while watching the rescue some recognized them including the orange blossom owner, saying they dined here often. >> they kind here? >> yes, we knew them it's very sad. >> many people in the borough know the couple by sight but not well. close neighbors say they lived here for many many years describing them as private, polite and quiet people. >>> striking verizon workers swelled their ranks as they were outside of a store in royersford. and they called on active and retired union members to join their cause. as a result several hundred people showed up and they marched up and down ridge pike and around an inflatable fat cat. nearly 40,000 verizon workers are on strike since the middle of april. >>> blue hens fans had a chance to stock up on gear to cheer on their

people were hurt, when this train moving southbound collided with a car, here on the tracks, in riverton, you can see, that crews are working now, to tow that car off of the tracks. we're told this crash happened around 10:00 this morning, at the intersection of broad and main streets. now, we want to show you some video from chopper three, not too long ago, crews actually rescued a man who was trapped inside that mercedes benz here on the tracks, and the damage is pretty severe. we saw debris from that car scattered on the tracks, here, and also, on the grass. and other person in the car taken to cooper university hospital in camden. we're not sure yet on that person's condition. we do know that there were 35 passengers on this train, at the time. officials say two of them were injured. a witness riding in the first carve that train told us that the driver of that mercedes benz tried to beat the train, before it passed. >> it t bone him right on the side. he is very lucky to be alive it, lift the train up, jarred everyone in the first car, and the second car, and, he is lucky to be aliv
