but your rnc really means it. i can tell you because again i'm probably on 15 to 20 conference calls every week where we're talking about it. it's something we are going to continue to do and we are committed to this cycle. so with that let's open it up for a few questions for the panel. right here. >> thank you very much. on the data side. have you looked at voter fraud data? >> absolutely. one of the big things that we do essentially is -- it's a really hard thing to track torks be honest with you. every state has very different election laws. you get a state like wisconsin, new hampshire with the same day elections. it's really hard to actually prove that at the time, which they're registering to vote. so we do try to figure out exactly who was voting in multiple locations. but you have to do a lot of research into it. so we did he feel do take that into account. it's really only 1%. but we do take that into kd. especially in these states. zbl right here, ma'am. >> i'll just point. >> this is for the data also.

i know the rnc is asking a set of other questions.hey really want to know. >> and it makes sense what you're saying. but i want to bring in beth because when you look at a new poll from some key states here's an issue, it shows hillary clinton is upside down on whether she's honest and trustworthy in the states of colorado, iowa and virginia. what's driving this? >> well remember that whenever hillary clinton is sort of far off the stage, that's when her polling numbers are the best. that's what happens with people in the politics all the time. once people are back into the political world, voters start to scrutinize them a little bit more and start to think about the things that they're concerned about. hillary is getting a little bit more scrutiny from voters than she did six or eight months ago when she was flying around the world, getting awards and she was in chappaqua and things like that. i think the polling that you just showed, it's interesting, it's a snapshot. it doesn't really represent what's going to happen 18 months fro

why is your successor at the rnc chair allowing three dozen states under the republican leadership toush to make it harder to vote, especially for older people and in that group especially for minorities. your thoughts? >> to give reince the room he needs here, that's not something he controls is what a republican legislature is going to produce and promote. i think the broader question, though, which is around this idea of the party of lincoln, the party that not just talked about emancipation but then followed it up with the right to vote, and you contrast that, that legacy against the current backdrop of legislation, particularly in states that republicans control, the legislature in which it is perceived if not, in fact, a diminution or rejection of that principle. that's a problem for the party, and it's hard to claim that mantle in the 21st century when you look at the arc of time from lincoln to the present day, so i think it's important for the party to understand its roots when you talk about lincoln, when you talk about the things he fought for, how he used government as a t

i'm joined tonight by michael steele, msnbc political analyst and former rnc chair. also with us tonight, the president of the plow shares fund. gentlemen, great to have you with us. michael, what's going on here? this is very unusual that republican candidates would break out in a war of words over how to defend the country or interact with the world when it comes to military might. is rand paul facing skepticism for his non-interventionist views? what's happening here? >> i think you've got your finger on it a little bit there. you've got someone who's injected something into the conversation that's contrary to the status quo belief that this is how we engage in foreign affairs militarily. rand paul is in my estimation and a lot of estimations of the people around the country is taking a common sense approach. where he has agreed with the president, he has stated that publicly. where he has disagreed with the president in handling certain matters, he's done the same thing. i think that rankles a lot of folks who want to be in sort of an anti-obama, pro-sort of inte

the rnc, the republican national committee, has an ad out in some of these battleground states this weekend as a prebuttal if you will saying her record is too tied to the failed policies of the obama administration. it's interesting, we had a chance to talk to the republican party chair here in iowa at a news conference right here on the steps of the state capitol. here's what he said about her record as secretary of state. >> look at the results that were proved -- that were produced while she was secretary of state. if you look at what the world looks like in all seriousness, if you look at what the world looked like in 2008 before barack obama took his oath of office and she became his secretary of state and you look at the world now, i don't know if i was -- if i was mrs. clinton, i don't know if i'd be bragging about that. >> reporter: also interviewed martin o'malley, a potential democratic rival to clinton. he said something similar. he wasn't as harsh in his criticism but as a democrat he said, look traveling all around the world as secretary of state doesn't mean that you've just
