first, i want to take you live to bob redell out there on the roads. bob, what is the aftermath from this whopper storm? we didn't get a lot in the south bay but we did north of the golden gate bridge. >> reporter: yes, good morning to you. of course right now we do have a break in that rain. we're on highway 87 at guadeloupe heading through downtown san jose on northbound 280, you can see this is good, it's going to make for an easier commute but it's not good for our water supplies, the people in charge of our water tell us we need a lot more rain. yes, this storm was helpful but nowhere near enough. we're still at about 20 to 25% of normal rainfall levels for this time of the year. >> i think it would take a good you know, eight inches of rain, basically, to start seeing measurable runoff. the shattersheds are that dry. >> reporter: right now we're headed on northbound 280 toward woodside where there is a report after tree down on 84. our traffic anchor mike inouye has more on that. mike. >> good morning, bob. hey, you know, we'll catch up with him.

a third of our roads are in poor or mediocre condition.we need as a nation to say, we are going to be the most competitive when it comes to infrastructure and understand that that investment today is going to reap tremendous benefits down the road. i think us coming together, the nation coming together, everybody up here has come together to say we need it and then to have the political will to go forward, i think, is what we need. it is just the determination to say we will do it and get together and do it. i applaud the people, the members of this committee, theuse you understand importance to the country of infrastructure and us maintaining our infrastructure, whether it is a bridge, whether it is a road. i would urge you to go further and think bolder and start talking about high-speed rail. it is a great system that does not waste electricity. a delivery system where you do not have the and seeps and draining gas and water oil into the environment. all of these things can create jobs and make us competitive, and i think the most impor

slick roads throughout.you the map and the backup coming down out of rodeo and hercules jammed up approaching the scene. you saw all of the lights, slow eastbound 80 out of richmond, and in to san pablo, blocking both sides of the freeway. an earlier crash at university has cleared before you got there. the backup around the golden gate field. around the berkeley curve to the bay bridge toll plaza. the blue still showing us wet roads the rain tapering off. watch the slick conditions. here 680 through san ramon, more ponding as well. we'll show you oakland for a live look fast coliseum. water kicking up and on the windshields as well. back to the maps, toward wiffle road, reports of ponding there. something as big as a swimming pool size puddle. be careful. as we move to the south bay, a smooth flow of traffic. a smooth drive but your northbound traffic really jamming up 101 all the way up toward 101 and 880 interchange. i'm circling 280 at bird. we had a closure that had ponding that has reopened. until then
