rob joins us with a first look at what we can expect as we head into the holiday weekend. rob? >> that's right. that was the weather fireworks we saw off to the east last night. right now a much calmer view misty skies. 67 degrees. sea breeze is cooling places off like san francisco a couple days ago. sitting near 80. the cooling of the ocean air conditioning turning on around the bay area. late last night look at that lightning crossing over the hills there of the diablo range. more lightning in the north bay this morning. we could see another round of this setting up as we head towards the evening into looks like the early hours of tomorrow. right now the radar is primarily dry but look off to the east again. more moisture here coming off the sierra that will try to make a run at the bay area later on this evening which will give us a chance not only of that humidity you're feeling outside right now but a chance of seeing some scattered showers and maybe brief isolated thunder near the hilltops. especially out towards the north bay. as we head into the fourth of july weekend

our meteorologist rob mayeda. well rob?> santa clara probably one of the best spots around the bay area. a little different story, though if you're out on the coastline toward san francisco. we have some live video for you toward santa cruz. you can see the fog sweeping in. hazy skies out there right now. we're seeing more up the coast in san francisco and across the north bay as we show you the time lapse in tiburon. you can see the golden gate during the day, and as we moved into the afternoon, the fog has kind of taken over right now. san francisco, you can see the clouds coming in across the santa monica pier and not too much higher than this you'll see the fireworks exploding in the sky. if that was the case this evening, you would see blue and pink clouds. the next three hours shows the fog already spilling over towards oakland. we have fireworks if he isfestivities there in san francisco. we'll see some low clouds approaching livermore by 9:00. you saw santa clara there, great america looks pretty good. some low clou

we want to take you back out to meteorologist rob mayeda. rob, let's look at san francisco. it's one of maybe the cooler spots today, compared to the tri valley. no? >> yeah about 30 degrees separation there between san francisco and what we're seeing inland now. 70 degrees, not too bad. the camera bouncing around because the sea breeze is starting to at least try to fire up right now. not too bad there in san francisco. the view in pleasanton not as hot as yesterday at this hour. 96 degrees. you've got the clouds spilling in and nearby south around sunol, actually seeing scattered showers around 680 and brief showers around san jose. 77 degrees. and yes, real raindrops in the last half hour. first let's talk about the temperatures. you can see the numbers still in the 90s inland. this is quite the change especially south into san jose and san martine. 14 to 20 degrees cooler. part of that is the sea breeze but the other part is the rain falling through the atmosphere evaporating and cooling. it's a net cooling effect as that water droplet evaporates and cools the air down.

let's bring in rob mayeda. rob, most of us are just looking at brown lawns, but when you see the water levels there, it really does give you pause. >> yeah the four years cumulative effect adding up there. the reservoirs across northern california and around the state, yet still most of the bay area in extreme drought conditions. as you get out closer to the central valley and eastern alameda, contra costa and santa clara counties you get into the exceptional rating for drought. as we get into the warmest and hottest time of year you usually don't find much relief from the weather. we do have some relief from the heat ongoing right now in pleasanton. only 74 degrees, 70 in san jose. pretty strong sea breeze reaching the south bay right now. there's a view of oakland, 68 degrees. patchy low clouds. 66 right now in san francisco. those winds strongly onshore. that's going to keep our temperatures running pretty mild as we approach the weekend, but bigger changes coming up as we head toward next week. the low clou

investigators say an armed man robbed the wash & shop laundromat on sacramento street. neighbors were asked to stay inside as police huntsed for a suspect. they did not find the suspect. he's described as dark-skinned 5'11" under 30 years old with facial hair and silver teeth. he was last seen wearing a gray long-sleeved sweatshirt. >>> the search for a missing san francisco teacher entered its 11th day today. this is the teacher, ed cavanaugh. he was last seen friday july 17th when he went on a dirt bike ride west of lake tahoe. he was staying at his cabin north of placerville in the el dorado national forest. dozens of search and rescue volunteers spent the weekend looking for him but did not find any trace of him. today search dogs joined the effort. cavanaugh worked at downtown continuing he had elevation high school where he taught wilderness skills. friends and family are especially concerned because he is diabetic and doesn't have his medication. >>> new at 5:00 a shakeup with the olympics. the u.s. olympic committee announcing today that boston is out of the run
