meteorologist rob mayeda joining us now.nd, rob, you've been driving across the golden gate bridge this afternoon. usually there's some air circulation there, but not today. yeah. no wind. and it's a byproduct of the dry weather. strong high pressure above locking in some of the particulate matter pollution or smoke around the bay area below. and this is the view from san francisco. as you look out there. it's not fog that is smoke pollution where high pressure above has that warmer air aloft which acts like a lowering ceiling over the bay area with you can think of the coastal mountains and the inland mountains, sort of like the sides of a bowl. well, as that warm air rises from the ground, it hits that warmer air layer above that inversion layer, and it traps the smoke closer to ground level. and if had a lot of wind around the bay area, we had that unhealthy for unhealthy air quality around the central bay. and the worst of it was around the tri-valley east bay. and there you see unhealthy for all groups as you head into

meteorologist rob mayeda keeping an eye on all of that. what's going on, rob? right now, kind of a mild storm system. you saw the wet roadways up there near kingvale and the sierra, so that's actually pretty good for sierra travel. closer to home we got patchy fog and some rain there around downtown san jose, south san jose, just north of morgan hill, and a few more scattered showers offshore. this is where we're going to be in for most of the weekend. cloudy skies, dealing with the rain at times and some strong wind offshore bringing some dangerous surf to the coast. high surf advisory continues through the day on sunday. and look at those wave heights offshore. 17ft breakers could at times get closer to 20ft on into sunday. now, where the sierra travel is concerned today, the bigger issue has been the wind. wind gusts over 50mph at times near tahoe valley airport. notice we do have better driving conditions for the monday forecast, but keep an eye on christmas eve tuesday. this will be the next stronger storm system that will impact the bay area. you see it r

meteorologist rob mayeda joins us now with more details. okay, rob. so we saw a lot of flooding not too long ago in the north bay. and now we're possibly going to see the stretch of dry weather. yeah. you know, dry days in december it's higher impact because the rainfall averages are usually more per day. but you bring up what we had two weeks ago, that super soaker of a four day rain total up towards santa rosa, where you had about a third of the annual rain come down. and that fouour day peod. but we did see quite a bit less south of san francisco about two weeks ago. now, moving forward the next ten days unusually dry, not just for the bay area, but even up towards the north coast. most of the rain is up across the pacific northwest. so when you look at this pattern and you factor in, you know, what is the average rain per day, and then you factor that out, multiply it by those ten days. the missing rain totals tend to add up more quickly this time of year as we go from now december, january and february. about 60% of the year's rain totals fall in

i'm rob nesbitt kron 4 news. rob, thank you. this guilty verdict does bring some degree of closure to one of san francisco's most watched trials in recent years. no doubt kron 4 lezla gooden was in the courtroom when the verdict was read and heard from both families. leslie, i know you've been covering this for weeks now quite a day. >> i still have no words to kind of describe what's happening. but what i can tell you is that starting around 8, 08:30am, here in this courthouse in this hallway was completely full. you couldn't move around anything like that. tensions were very high and we walked into the courtroom. it was completely silence. and i watched both families as they read the verdict, family when they heard the not guilty initially took a deep breath. and then when they heard guilty, they kinda exhaled and i amenities mother who has never missed a day in court as that verdict was read. she was very stoic, very calm. and we did not menus reaction. he did not turn around to look at the court at any point while we were in

rob, thanks a lot. and rob was talking about those big waves along the coast. stay away. they're drawing crowds. yeah. and those waves are only expected to get bigger. nbc bay area's alyssa goard reports from pacifica. people have been heading to the coast here in san mateo county to check out the big waves crashing on the shore here, but officials say there's reason to be cautious. there are some life threatening surf conditions here. large waves could sweep in without warning. that's the warning tonight from the national weather service, and it's drawing locals and visitors alike to see the waves for themselves. we just had a sort of notification saying that the waves are really big, so we just rushed out and just drove here right away. the waves look a bit turbulent. also would not go into the water today, but great to look at, compelling to look at, but important to keep your distance. officials urge the public to stay out of the water and off of jetties and piers. the storms in the forecast could bring flooding to some coastal communities, too. in pacifica

, where suspects used a car to ram into a store to rob it. it happened friday morning. store management declined an interview, but say the suspects only made off with a few hundred dollars worth of merchandise. unlike what happened at its other san leandro location, this gamestop location was hit on christmas eve. management tells us the damage just to the front is estimated at $20,000. they say the suspects took off with upwards of 30 playstation fives valued at $450 each. >> i don't approve of it because then i have to go to another store and stuff everything be messed up. but that's just what it is. >> san leandro police say the suspects in the christmas eve incident were arrested. the police department was not available for an interview, but in a statement to abc seven news says, quote, we are concentrating patrol and investigative resources in order to reduce the number of occurrences and also to apprehend those responsible for these wantonly destructive crimes. this is the fourth ram and rob incident reported just this week in the east
