i'm rob nesbitt kron 4 news. thank you, rob. at the state capitol lawmakers are working to get key bills to the governor's desk. head of the midnight deadline. one of those bills that has passed would increase paid sick days to 5 for employees in california marking an increase from the current minimum of 3 days. known as sb 7.99 that would allow employees that go on strike for more than 2 weeks to qualify for state funded unemployment insurance benefits. but that just this week, governor newsom expressed concerns saying that it could be affordable for the state's unemployment insurance fund. burbank, senator anthony, a port authored the legislation. >> protect those workers who are out there on just right. want to give them some hope so they can put food on their table in california should step up and appreciate its workers. >> there were, of course, some bills that did not make it, including one trying to limit solitary confinement within california prisons. the bill's authors assembly member chris holden says that he plans to

i'm rob nesbitt. kron. 4 news was busy weekend for the sandra fell. police department officers responded to shootings, stabbings and a deadly crash. it all happened following a guatemalan independence day event in the canal neighborhood. >> the event went off without a hitch friday night but things and got out of control shortly after 10 police responded to reports of shots being fired along nevado street officers found a 25 year-old with gunshot wounds. he was taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries and then after midnight, a 24 year-old man was stabbed during a fight. he was also taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. about an hour later, a 20 year-old man took himself to the er with gunshot wounds. he's expected to be ok, but so far he's not been cooperating with investigators. unfortunately, the violence was not entirely unexpected. the last year we had a couple incidents, nothing to the degree that we had this year. >> but based on that, we had added an additional patrol shift and we're expecting some sideshow acti

i'm stephanie lin kron four's rob nesbitt joins us live now from the scene of that breaking news. rob, what are you seeing now? >> stephanie, i'm on oak street in san francisco near to visit street. behind me is where this trench rescue is happening. you can see all of the rescue crews, fire officials and police are gathered here. i counted about 50 emergency crew people behind me and the whole is at the very center of all these people where a person is apparently buried under 8 feet of dirt. now, these rescue technicians have been here for about an hour and a half. this call came in around 10. 35 at the 1100 block of the street at the visit, street and oak. we have fire department crews, as i said and what i did notice, stephanie, is when i first arrived, it was extremely busy loud. everyone was focused on the whole in terms of rescue crews. they had what looked to kind of an air sumption take machine. you can see kind of what the black to over the top. that was down in the hole in the ceiling kind of work in the sector. that was on top of the person out. i notice that machine has
