in san jose, robert handa, nbc bay area news. >>> some beautiful pictures from the sierra. take a look the a the snowy day up there. the video was from palisades, tahoe. three inches fell overnight, you may not be excited about that, but an additional 12 inches expected. it could be as much as 18, 18 additional inches of snow. it will be a wet couple days up there. the bay area gets a third of its water supply from up there, so this is beautiful in more ways than one. >> this is a bit encouraging for us, because we're on 35 days, 36 days now of no rain? >> january 7 was the last time we had some measurable activity, so picking up a little bit of snow, even a little bit of rain is going to help with the immediate fire danger, although we are going to be watching out for some isolated thunderstorms. the vegetation still a little bit moist, so i don't think we would see any fire spark, but any time there is lightning, that is always going to be a concern, especially with a drought. look outside here in san jose, and it is deceiving with this view. you have the cloud cover, the

robert handa is in sunnyvale with the latest. what are we learning? >> reporter: we are here at the travel lodge motel. public safety officers are investigating. right now, they are inside the facility talking with the missing child's mother and the search is in full swing. law enforcement agencies around the bay area and beyond are looking for jacob who we are told by family members is about to turn 2. he is three feet tall, 25 pounds with red curly hair. jacob was in his mom's 2008 buick enclave when was parked and running at around 4:00 a.m. his mother told police she was unloading groceries when the vehicle was stolen. jacob was in the buick at the time. family members have told us that the mother just didn't want to wake jacob up. jacob was wearing a sweatshirt you see in the photo with white and gray pants. police are now looking for a woman as basically a person of interest. 29-year-old tammy wun. surveillance cameras show her in corridors around the time of the abduction. she's not seen with jacob. investigators have not called her a suspect.

nbc bay area's robert handa reports. >> reporter: the parking lot here at the travel inn on matilda avenue in sunnyvale is where family and friends gathered to watch the investigation and find out what happened to the young boy. there were hugs and tears of relief as family members of a toddler at the center of an amber alert, jacob, was found tonight safe and unharmed. >> my immediate thought was a sigh of relief. like, okay, i'm happy that they found him, now i just want to see him. >> reporter: police say the 1-year-old, who the family says will turn 2 this week, was in his mom's buick enclave when she returned to the travel inn motel about 4:00 in the morning. the mother said she left her son inside the suv while she unloaded groceries. when she came out, the vehicle and child were gone. >> it's been horrible. the worst. not knowing where he was at, not knowing how he is doing, the worst feeling ever. >> reporter: after a massive law enforcement search which included the fbi, sunnyvale public safety reported an officer found the boy in the vehicle in a lot about four miles away. he was
