one near the rockford airport and went this direction. this big one was on the ground for a longer period following that red line roughly. it did take out that one town with 30 residents, every home significantly damaged. in all a little over 300 storm report damages from hail to wind or strong wind gusts. peppered areas from missouri to arkansas all the way through the ohio valley. there's still a few strong storms out there. as is typical this time of the morning things have died out overnight. still a line of possible wind gusts with damaging winds with these storms as they roll into the appalachians and the higher terrain of areas of eastern kentucky and also through west virginia and now the knoxville area's getting storms. eventually this stuff will move through areas of the east. we have a slight risk of severe weather. areas of south carolina virginia, georgia. that does include areas around augusta, probably sometime around 6:00 p.m. east coast time we expect storms to roll through. possibility of delay in play at the masters. we

illinois was particularly hard hit yesterday especially fair dale which is right here around rockford illinois right around here is where that deadly tornado hit. but very few areas in northern illinois were spared those severe thunderstorms yesterday. we had thunderstorms moving through. they were not severe. they were loud for some of us. but most of this is out of here, and now we're anticipating the cold front. all this yellow yellow there severe thunderstorm watches so it could get severe there as well. we have drizzle around here in the philadelphia area right now. the next round of, thunderstorm activity starts around 4:00 o'clock down to berks county where reading is and then moves through the city, six or 7:00, should be gone from the entire area by eight or 9:00 and then we will get ready for sunshine over rest of the weekend. temperatures are on the chilly side this morning but for a change they will not stay chilly. thirty-nine in allentown. forty-two in philadelphia, 42 in millville. forty-three down in dover. here's where we are headed. seventy if we get enough sunshine

fortunately went to the south of the rockford area that's a lot more populated and did not see a showerchicago area. that helps with a lot of the damage. communities that were hit were certainly hit incredibly hard. now this storm has pulled off towards the east. and we have about another three to four hours before we are completely done with this system. rain down across parts of the deep south. but one little area of severe weather threat and that's right here in the mid-atlantic areas it east virginia. just to the southwest of washington, d.c. area. south of delaware in towards maryland. we are going to watch one last line of storms. that expires at 11:00 tonight as this cold front will finally move all the way through the area. i want to end just on a little bit of a bright note greta. so much of the eastern seaboard has been so cold for so long. watch what happens over the next few days. this is the first time we have been able to say this in ages when you look at these temperatures, boston sunday at 64 degrees. buffalo at 61. raleigh 73. we're going to remain with these temperatur

mike tobin standing by amid the damage in fairdale, illinois, just west of chicago south of rockford. hi mike. >> reporter: hi there erik. let me show you quick what's happening. we've got this row of power trucks coming in town as really moves onioned the search -- on beyond the search beyond the rescue efforts and it's all about the clean-up now, the recovery. as we come over in this direction, i can show you some of the destruction. you can see the force of this tornado that rolled the car over in the field pinning it up against a tree. you can see all of these trees that were knocked over the insulation that was blown into the trees by the force of the storm stuck there just like the metal sheeting and what not. it looks like a tree that's been broken, that's a power pole that was snapped like a toothpick and right behind it it the tree that's knocked over. you can get a percent look into the center of town -- a better look into the center of town. it's a small town of about 200 people. everyone in this town knew each other, that is why they know the 67-year-old woman, geraldine s

to the south of the rockford area and west of chicago, much more populated areas than what we saw hit. and unfortunately, a horrible tragedy. the cold front has moved east. this is where we've got juicy air and kind of primed for more severe weather. this warm front is going to spread up across the northeast and bring much warmer temperatures by the time we get toward tonight. the severe weather threat here mostly wind and hail. i think we see any tornado activity today, it will be across parts of eastern virginia including the washington, d.c., area and toward baltimore. that will be the one spot we're going to watch as we go into the evening for possibly tornadoes. got to show you this. average year to date, we've only had 89 tornadoes so far. we typically would have had around 252. we are well below average for where we typically would be this time of year. that's great news. but you see, it just takes one tornado to cause all of those problems. one last thing to show, one piece of good news coming here. at least temperature-wise. watch the next couple of days across northeast. 60s

one was weaker started near rockford, did a path. the monster one we have been looking at we will find out how long it was on the ground possibility of 40 to 50 miles was this red track here as it crossed the interstate. now as far as the tornadoes go we only had about 16 yesterday. many with the same reports from one spot. wasn't a huge tornado outbreak it was isolated the worst, through illinois and a couple of tornadoes in eastern iowa. we are not seeing anything like that today at all thankfully. we have a few strong storms to deal with. could get wind damage. trees could fall power outages. that's the biggest threat today. washington, d.c., we have our eyes on you. the storms are coming in through the mountains. they kick through d.c. baltimore, richmond area going through late afternoon. peak heating of the day. to the south, atlanta, a soaking rain for you. they'll regenerate fire up over south carolina and georgia this afternoon. and of course the master's is being played in augusta. if you're watching that coverage later, yo
