making its way across the nation's heartland after blanketing parts of the rocky mountains. the weather channel's mike seidel joins us. how is it oking right now? >> they're biggest out from under the biggest snowstorm in february. 15 inches of powder shut the city down yesterday. at the airport, 600 flight cancellations. a 150 mile stretch of i-70 reopened. today the symptom dumped on nebraska. they were shoveling cars out of snow banks in omaha and they set a record. it's still snowing there. another inch or two before it wraps up this evening. the storm moves east and weakens and most that falls on sunday will be rain. temperatures still warmer than average. a terrific super bowl sunday forecast in indianapolis. the sun is back out. highs in the upper 40s.

temperatures have dropped below freezing, many areas of the rockies, northern plains and chicago. temperatures continue to drop as the snow continues to fall. the surprise in the forecast the amount of cold air that came in last night for a northern new jersey, connecticut, rhode island and portions of massachusetts, that has set the stage for the snow you're looking out the window in connecticut at. some areas reporting as much as two to three inches on the ground. as far as chicago goes, the city that was going to get hit the worst from the snowstorm, thinking six to eight inches of snow, we've got two inches on the ground. we still have to go through the back side of the storm which is in this band which will be colder. we're at 34. temperatures will probably drop a little further, probably pick up another two to three inches. not six to ten or six to eight in chicago, more or less ending up around four or five. still snowing pretty good, interstate 88 the worst of the morning commute out there. michigan, this area has light snow, plenty cold enough to stick on the ground from

and you are up at the southern end ftd rocky mountains and there is this scarp of rock that rises up probably about a thousand feet out of a valley floor and right at the tip of this scarp there are two twin towers of rock. if you get to a certain place on top of this very narrow butte, you can see between these twin towers and there happens to be a great house built between these two towers and every 18.6 years when the moon goes into its northernmost point on the horizon, it rises between those two towers. i was there at the beginning of the last 18.6 year cycle and we stood up there, probably 20 of us, researchers, forest service people, all gathered at the same spot with cameras and huddled -- it was late december at 8,000 feet and we were all watching this gap. and somebody had done very intricate work to figure out exactly where you need to stand to see the light at exactly the right time. and as we were all gathered up there, i remember this older archeo-astronomer said it's too bad this isn't celebrated any more. this is such a momentous occasion, the moon finally coming up b

a rocky creek. we now know the name of that paramedic who's here in critical condition at the hospital. he is 33-year-old joshua weissman of bristow. a seven year veteran of the department. we now have obtained the picture of this 33-year-old paramedic. weissman was responding to a car fire on 395 near glebe road yesterday evening when he got out of his car, and get this -- somehow he fell through a gap in-between the two spans of the bridge. he dropped 20 feet into a rocky creek below. >> medic units are dispatched with engine companies on autofires to provide medical assistance. they were responding as part of that initial response. they came up on the -- autofire first. the other person on the medic unit reported immediately what had happened and at that point we dispatched additional resources to deal with that issue as well. >> reporter: now weissman was reportedly in cardiac arrest when he was pulled from the creek. and we're told by witnesses on the scene that crews worked feverishly to reviv
