he won about the same amount of the votes as clinton and ron paul and and it seems to have a feeling he's never going to get above. and if he doesn't get the nomination he does command a lot of support among significant number of people. so he's the republican party has to keep inside of the tents like 92 with ross perot. what do you think is the plan about congressman ron paul? >> first of all south carolina is not ron paul territory. not doing well in polls there. he's indicated he's not going to do a lot in florida this could be -- i'm not sure, i talked to a lot of people there. i asked everybody who did you vote for last time around? and maybe one person voted for george w. bush. a lot of people voted for ron paul last time around. and a lot of people voted for libertarian candidate a couple obama votes. one guy said he voted for his grandfather. he wrote in his name. bottom line is not a lot of republicans in that crowd. >> greta: south carolina. can the other candidates, i think it's going to be fierce there. kt other candidates lay a glove on governor romney? they're fired up

another good heavens i went every four years with his caucus as ron paul when he. converged already on mitt romney. in a romney win. now in this race it is clear three front runners have. is a more in register poll finds mitt romney leading ron paul and rick santorum so it appears the battle lines have been drawn and one of these three men will win each candidate has a very different following let's take a look at who they are and what they stand for mitt romney is the man with the money he's got the big business background the see who's not afraid to fire you to make a buck and that's why the big businesses have lined up behind him he's considered to be the most electable and then there is a ron paul he has a legion of dedicated followers those mostly young supporters are sick of the status quo not happy with the current state of the economy and meddling in the wars abroad they believe ron paul is the only candidate that offers a real change. and the new candidate enjoying his time in the spotlight is rick santorum he is the darling of the far right religious conse

he came under attack in the last 48 hours. we just showed ron paul. we know he'll be in the top tier. this is 2008. he won one county, a tiny county down in southwest. so he's spreading the map tonight. let's come forward to 2012. you are going to watch. in just minutes when they start reporting from those caucus sites this map will start filling in. ron paul won just one county last time. what will we look for this time? number one, tea party strength. the darker the county, the higher percentage of republicans in this part of the state identify with the tea party. let's use blue for the contrast here. a lot of tea party voters, a lot of tea party voters. if ron paul is to be a serious contender, he'll fill in the map in places like this. his son rand paul was there to help him during this campaign. libertarians, young people, tea party voters, that's the test for ron paul tonight. can he expand from the one lonely county he won back in 2008? want to clear this and go back to our 2008 experience. take this off, excuse me, and come back to 2008, this i

he's got 7,844 votes, ahead of rick santorum with 23%, 7,726. ronere as well, 7,655, he's got 23%. then all of a sudden newt gingrich slips. he's at 13% with 4,440. and then the bottom three, they're in trouble right now in iowa, with about a third of the votes in if you take a look at rick perry and michele bachmann and jon huntsman, they are not doing as well. there you see it right there. 10% for rick perry, 6% for michele bachmann, only 1% more jon huntsman. but once again, 61% of the precincts reporting. let's go down, anderson, as we're watching all of this unfold, you know, just to give you some perspective, four years ago, we projected a winner in the iowa caucus at 8:35 p.m. eastern. now it's, what, an hour and a half later. and we can't project a winner, it's so cl
