we have a shadow president in susan rice and no one -- edward: i have also herd chief of staff ron klainrked in the white house through three administrations, over a decade, here is what happens in the white house. at this time is all about location. it is a really small place. it is even smaller than it looks like on tv shows. if you're working in the west wing, you see the president a couple of times a day, a couple of times an hour. susan rice, former national security advisor, had one of the big offices in the west wing of the white house. now she is domestic counsel advisor f she is going to meetings, lawrence, edward, she will not oh, i will not talk about topic because i'm domestic affairs now. she is weighing in on everything. she has probably an undue amount of influence in an administration where joe biden, i don't think anybody thinks is is fully in charge of the administration he is running. edward: it is interesting, people are wondering about biden and the reason why speaking yesterday. so he took two questions yesterday. he got lured back to the podium. this is what he sai

. >> i talked to the chief of staff at the white house and the biden administration, ron klain, last, you know, i was pushing him on the decline in vaccinations. he said it -- it's a natural decline. that, it's not surprising that there -- you know, obviously, there is a lot of interest, at first. and once those people -- then, it's the harder-to-reach people or the people who are skeptical about it. and that, they are, you know, going out to try to get to those people. and -- and get them to take a vaccine. we have seen some states, you know, offering free beer. or other incentives. do you buy that this is just, sort of, an understandable decline? or do you think it's something more -- more serious? >> well, i think it's both. i think the biden administration gets a lot of credit for building the infrastructure, so quickly. getting the supply. increasing the distribution. and at some point, we were going to hit that equilibrium where the supply catches up to demand. we have hit it really soon, in part because the biden administration's done such a good job. but i do think that, now,

i think that president biden and ron klain and others are going to understand how to consequence thisan be done on a bipartisan way become able to peel off some republicans and the most obvious is infrastructure. there's a lot you can compromise and not have to go big on an initial infrastructure bill. likewise, surprisingly, congressman clyburn and others have opened the way on police reform to have something that will have some republican support. i think biden needs to do that first, to show that he can actually do some things on a bipartisan basis. and that gives him the chance to go big when it comes to some of the family help things he wants to do for the middle class and working class families. and once he's passed an infrastructure bill, even if it's scaled back on a bipartisan way, i think that gives him some more runway room. >> ashley parker, i want to look at your piece, especially as it pertains to everything that's going on today. you would think that perhaps donald trump or the republicans could find a place responding to all of this. you're looking at president, former
