in fact, in the last few minutes buoy between roosevelt island and the banks of the potomac. right now the biggest mystery is whether or not someone was actually inside of this suv befe it we into the water. as daylight broke, search and recovury crews retned to the potomac river. u.s. coast guardnd coting a first search from the air while a boat combed therea where a witness says a car drove into the waters late sunday night. according to coast guard, that witness heard a splash and saw the car floating in the river. but cannotrm confi whether someone was side. as severalch boats seusing sonar technology, divers took to the water looking for any signs oflife but found nothing. search conditions became too dangerous and were ultimately called off unti this morning. making the search difficult for crews, is size of the potomac river and the strong currents that could have pushed the car in any direction. >>> last night metro pd told us e coast guard was helping them with models to help them try to inpoint exactly where the currents were moving, where this car may have drifted.

cory smith is live with the latest on this fr roosevelt island. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, aaron and eun. as the sun rises, the conditions needed for crews o get back and continue the recovery effort, continue to improve, we'll show you the scene from late sunday night. the call to 911 came in around 9:20 yesterday. someone reporting a car going into the potomac river, an suv. when investigators got to the scene, theykeid spo it to a witness who said they saw the car go into the water. inveigators also found tire tracks indicating that a car had gone in. for hours, crews searched by th air, ey searched by land, and divers in the water, as well. there are no signs of the suv and no signs of anyone who may have been side. the difficult thing about this obviously is that the potomac is a large body of noter. w crews are having to take into account the currents and t wheres car may he drifted. let's listen to what investigators had to say. >> there is possibility of this vehicle in theh water, tat it could have floated some distance. tha
