a lot of this is centered more towards santa rosa. and then of course, areas right near rohnert park. we're talking near sonoma, right near the fire. if i extend this map out a bit further, i want to show you where some of the surface smoke impacts are. so santa rosa, the smoke pollution peaked earlier today. you can see that right there on the corner. and here's what we can expect in the upcoming hours. so notice the smoke drift here. this is where the fire is locally unhealthy. i took this to about 10 p.m. so areas into like concord, fairfield, livermore and even stretching down through parts of the south bay could still get some of that haze as those winds continue to kind of blow from the north, spreading some of that smoke south. but it does look like we're going to maintain more towards that hazy to moderate with the exception, of course, of the areas much closer to that fire. and then, of course, we've still got the dry conditions heading into tomorrow. so following the closing, the windows guidelines will still apply. okay van

it's the official start of wildfire season in santa rosa. the fire department says the declaration is necessary because of recent warming, warm, dry weather and increased fire activity. cal fire and contra costa firefighters teamed up to contain this wind driven brush fire that burned up a good chunk of hillside right by a group of homes in pittsburgh. it's the fifth fire, totaling more than 40 acres of burn in the last eight days in the greater bay area. cal fire says the heat in the coming days is going to dry out the landscape, providing more fuel for fires in the north bay. fire departments are already calling in more firefighters for the season. >> we've actually elevated our staffing levels a couple weeks early, so we have reached our peak staffing levels, and that's just based on the conditions and the activity that we've started to see recently. >> officials say that other firefighting units throughout the state are following suit and upping their staffing levels. they want to be prepared with any and all the available resources on h

she's live for us at the cal fire sonoma air attack base in santa rosa. and ginger, that threat certainly not over at this point . no, it is not. marcus and laura, we do know that there are some signs of progress that have been made. but yes, you are correct. the threat is not over. we are here at the santa rosa airport or sonoma county airport, which is also home to cal fire's air attack base. here in sonoma county, you can see cal fire's planes behind us. they're still parked, of course, this morning, as they didn't fly overnight. but we can expect them to be back at work later this morning and later on to the day. they were hard at work yesterday, keeping this fire at just over 1200 acres and 20% contained. sonoma county declared a local state of emergency yesterday. now people in neighboring healdsburg know this threat all too well. they are familiar with the smell of wildfire smoke this time of year and that orange hued skyline because of the nearby point fire threatening homes under evacuation orders. as cal fire says crews as of yesterday made good

the video was from the sonoma air attack base in santa rosa. meanwhile, in the south bay, a grass fire that burned about 19 acres in san jose on saturday is now 100% contained. fire crews stop that fire from spreading near san felipe and las animas roads. no buildings were damaged. the firefighters all across the state of in gearing up for this fire season as we head into the warmer summer months in sacramento, crews had to battle a large brush fire that's been threatening homes and forcing evacuations. they're calling this the excelsior fire and it's burned nearly 900 acres right near south sacramento. no injuries have been reported and some outbuildings have been reportedly damaged. the sacramento regional strike team had actually been heading to los angeles and they were called back to help out with this fire. strike teams from placer county and yolo counties are in los angeles. instead this morning, they're helping fight the post fires. it broke out saturday night right near the 5 freeway in gorman in northern los angeles county. and it has

san jose santa rosa.beach in half moon bay in the 50's at the tail end of this noon hour. temperature change. it's a mixed bag. here are a little cooler in santa rosa now. so not as hot right now, but you know, in an hour or 2, that's usually the warmest times of the day could change. and then about, you know, one to 7 degrees warmer depending where you are. winds are calm. as you can see the single digits right now with the exception of half moon bay, that sea breeze is cooling things down. and here are the highs yesterday. you can see we reach 100 degrees in now over 100 and napa and santa rosa. you broke a record 90 degrees. lot 100 yesterday. but the record was 98 degrees in 1949. so that seemed to be the only record i checked that was broken. but 94 5 in livermore and 92 in mountain view. so it was pretty hot yesterday. here are some of the records to be today and doesn't look like we'll get as close to it today with the city's redwood city 90's. a san francisco was 95 back in 18. 83, but looks like

we set that high in santa rosa today.ill fall about 6 degrees short of the record high tomorrow, but 4 degrees off the pace in livermore even with the high right around 100 degrees during the afternoon. we are always monitoring the wildfire threat as they dry out. but the lowest humidity levels today were around 15% or so and that is not critically low even as hot as it is. and we also don't have the gusty offshore winds. the humidity levels will recover overnight. tomorrow even as they drop off again, only down to 15% and that does help to keep the overall wildfire threat mitigated. lower than what we would with the offshore gusty winds as well. let's take a look at your seven-day forecast. we'll start with inland parts of the bay area with some changes in stored after tomorrow. back down to the upper 80s for highs on thursday. and as we head into the weekend, a little bit of a baby warm up by monday and tuesday. but that is more of a typical fluctuation that we've seen in the middle of june as opposed to the triple digi
