rosemary watching strange weather for us. hi, rosemary. >> good morning to you. almost back on the weekend of the 5th, when that ground to lightning -- cloud to ground lightning strike, wow, that was hard for me to say, actually started a fire in the santa cruz mountains. that is the concern this morning. we have some isolated showers but the bigger concern is a lightning strike that could actually hit the ground. we've got a little bit of light rain, it looks like, over our area of monterey. salinas. the rest of us mostly dry and mostly gray. we have a mix of mid and high- level clouds, mix of low clouds out there. earlier this morning, southeast sonoma county experienced a thunderstorm. outside of that a few light showers falling at times. look at the satellite radar, you can see that plume of monsoonal moisture pulling in from the south. this will continue moving north and east which means the sara for today going to be lighting up once again. we here at home will be drying out in the next couple of hours, and we're looking goodbye the afternoon. outside our d

if we were going to get rosemary in here in just a couple of minutes she's going to explain to us how the wind is effecting the fire, where that smoke going. we talked a lot julie spoke with someone hazmat team. the people who are inside of this plume of smoke are being told to stay in doors. that means shutting off windows, closing your doors keeping the clean air inside your home, inside your home and essentially letting that thick dark smoke where you may be living or working tonight. again at this point, this fire was reported just after 6:00 and what's coming up on an hour here that it's been burning. we talked a little bit about richmond as you know there are an awful lot of people who work there, 1200 workers based at this site alone. it is the largest employer in the city of richmond. this plant processes about 240,000-barrels of crude oil a at the same time we've seen two plumes of fire and smoke rising and at this point we don't know, again, what started the fire, but julie you've westbound been reporting for us through our facebook page. we've got reports of reports of peop

let's check in with rosemary orozco. >> a significant heat up. eventually, some of us may hit the century mark. our numbers warmer than where we were yesterday by 5-10 degrees inland. i want to point out a couple things, the on shore breeze, 12 miles per hour, that means, yes, that has been clipped and we are seeing it in the numbers. we have a breeze, you can see here, gusting to 22 miles per hour. even stronger than that off the coast. that helped to eat away at the marine layer. sunny skies over pacifica, half moon bay at this moment. winds light. sfo23 miles per hour. radar here, high pressure continues to build our way. as it does it continues to warm the air mass. it will keep that breeze weak. it will be long the coast line. this is why the coast will be comfortable compared to inland. marine player is becoming compressed. as we wake up tomorrow morning it should be along the coast line. maybe patchy fog along the bay area, however a quick burn off. tomorrow morning, a little bit, warmer, sunny skies expected for the afternoon. inland area

. >>> now to rosemary orozco who is following the wind direction. >> reporter: there's definitely pros and cons to the wind. it was picking up earlier and that helps helps disburse it a little bit. in that sense it's a draw back. but in a positive sense it helps to get it out of richmond and by dispersing it it becomes a little less danger. right now we have a southerly wind but it's only at five to 8 miles per hour. it's moving straight across richmond perhaps into a san pablo area. what it's doing is creating a bit of a blanket of smoke and fumes. we really need that wind to help dissipate that smoke. >>> officials say they have a team on the ground right now monitoring the air in neighborhoods near the refinery. they say everyone if you're not in a designated shelter in place, there's plenty of smoke in the air and smoke is an irritant. >> if they're having respiratory distress they should seek medical attention or get away from the smoke. >> people should avoid entering or driving through smoky areas unless it's an emergency. the advice is to stay indoors, keep windows shut and air
