i am rosemary connors.ust a few minutes before 7:30. meteorologist krystal klei is keeping a close watch on hurricane matthew and telling us about the effects in our area. >> that's right, rosemary. a lot to talk about with hurricane matthew pommelling the south carolina coast. you take a look from hilton head through charleston, seeing the eyewall of the storm, worst part of the storm. right now over charleston. very serious damage by end of the morning as it tracks northeast. for us, take a look. we move farther north and our area, we have clouds and rain to the west. a cold front is blocking matthew from making a direct hit near us, but some of matthew's moisture is pulled up with this front. later today we are tracking chances of rain moving through the area. as for temperatures, they aren't warming much. low 60s in philadelphia. the forecast high 71. >>> one person in the hospital following a crash in south philadelphia. take a look. one car overturned at 20th around the car hit three parked vehicles.

i am rosemary connors. we are tracking matthew along the changes it could bring for our weekend weather. let's get to krystal klei. she has the details. >> we have been tracking hourly updates. it is not a good scene along parts of georgia and south carolina coast this morning. this is a wide view of matthew. you can see the area of yellow, orange and red tracking from savannah up through hilton head. these areas, what you're looking at here, this stretch, that is part of the eyewall. the eye of the storm now very close to the coastline. that means we're very close to landfall. dangerous winds associated with this, heavy rain. i have been checking rain reports from this area through a chat system meteorologists can use all over the country suggesting some areas seeing more than ten inches of rain. on top of that, storm surge worries. 5 to 7 feet. the worry that could increase if it continues to push north and make landfall. there's the storm itself, now pulling out a bit, there's wind gusts near 50 miles pe

it's affecting any regular joe. >> reporter: rosemary connors, nbc 10 news. >> and joining me now is adam beck, a professor of health insurance at the american college in brimmore. thanks for being here. >> thanks for having me. >> why are premiums going up this much? >> with we've got two things going on. on one hand, you have the reason that premiums are going up on the obamacare marketplaces this year. that's basically a result of the fact that you have fewer people enrolling in the exchanges than was originally projected. more of those people are less healthy. they're older. and so that has caused some rate shifting for the insurers. and as a result of that, you've seen insurers leaving the marketplace so that's competition. in additionally in kind of what's happening this year, the reinsurance program that kind of acted as bumpers, if you've ever gone bowling and had the bumpers up, that's the reinsurance program. that expires at the end of this year. so insurers are raising premiums as a result of that. the other aspect is what we see in any sort of marketplace where insurance

i'm rosemary connors, nbc 10 news. >>> to the latest now on hurricane matthew. it continues to churn off the coast of florida. every hour bringing more damage. and it's far from over. the state has been feeling the impacts of the storm for nearly 24 hours now. some of the worst weather hit this afternoon. wind has knocked down trees, left a million people without power. let's take a live look at florida right now. you can see things starting to calm down, but it's still the strongest hurricane to strike that part of the state. we have team coverage tonight. nbc 10's randy gyllenhaal is live on the space coast. but we bin

. >>> welcome back to "nbc 10 news today" i'm rosemary connors. a set warning amade for most of us all thanks to what was hurricane matthew. meteorologist krystal klei has been watching the storm's path. >> we are seeing the effects of both matthew and that cold front we've been talking about for days now. the cold front really is affecting the forecast. because it's also pushing matthew along this morning. there's a look where 47 degrees in mount pocono. mid 50s to lancaster. then you look in philadelphia, at 57 degrees. and nearing 60 degrees atlantic city. so the cooler air not yet affecting us much but what i expect is that through your morning and even early afternoon, temperatures that you see now aren't going to change much at all because of that cold front that is currently passing through our zone. it's going to extend by later today and that's going to help push out the rain that we're currently tracking. already we're seeing that effect. the very light green is just drizzle or rain. so areas like allentown are in store for some sunshine

i'm rosemary connors. >> i'm vai sikahema. cool start but i think it will be a nice crisp fall day. let's get right to meteorologist krystal klei and the neighborhood forecast. good morning, krystal. >> good morning. that's a perfect description of this afternoon, a crisp fall day. 35 degrees, the temperature right now in allentown. philadelphia at 46 degrees. and that's about the best we do on the board here. 41 coatesville, trenton at 41. atlantic city at 40. look at mt. holly, 36 degrees as well. not seeing many numbers near freezing territory although we did see an hour ago, 31 degrees mt. pocono. the temperaturesç are quite chilly. this is the difference compared to yesterday morning. this is even cooler. we're at 8 degrees difference. allentown, 11 degrees colder in mt. holly and 5 degrees cooler in trenton to kick off our tuesday a.m. hours. looking at that frost advisory, put in place yesterday, still in effect through :00 a.m. for the areas shaded in blue. everywhere in hour zone except for delaware and long the i-95 corridor, those temperatures will bump up. we're talking

i am rosemary connors. it is 5:30 on this saturday. we're getting the latest on matthew from meteorologist krystal klei. krystal, this storm weakened, but doesn't mean it is not packing a punch. >> that's right. when you see a hurricane this close to shore, the issue is the eye over land. that's what you're seeing. the center is this clear spot, it has not made landfall but is close, close enough it doesn't matter if it weakened a bit. you're seeing heavy rain bands, very high winds, around 100 miles per hour as well as that serious storm surge pushing in. these areas are going to be dealing with damage as we see it move off later today. it is a question of how much damage certain spots see and if it will make landfall. regardless of landfall, look at the wind speeds. hilton head, 85 miles per hour. next in line is charleston. right now at 30 but that will increase through the morning. radar and satellite shows cloud cover thick, starting to move through. rain to the west and southwest. we have a cold front coming in from the west and
