ross mirkarimi testifying before the city's ethics commission trying to derail the mayor's effort to remove him from office. christie smith is live with what mirkarimi admitted on the stand. good morning, christie. >> reporter: good morning, jon. happy friday. during an hour of questioning, suspended sheriff ross mirkarimi, he had his supporters in place. he was questioned by the city attorney's office and he did admit that he committed an act of violence against his wife. saying he grabbed her arm and bruised it adding it's something i regret terribly. mirkarimi is fighting to keep his job as the city attorney trying to prove that the altercation from new year's eve day is official misconduct. the focus is on the sheriff's department written code of conduct that says a felony or misdemeanor conviction reflects negatively on the department. but mirkarimi was reluctant to say specifically yes, i've been convicted of a crime. >> you've been convicted of a misdemeanor. >> i pled to a misdemeanor. 236 of the penal code. >> that's not what i asked. were you convicted of a misdemeanor? >> o

we so washington is in san francisco to explain. >> share for ross mirkarimi pleaded guilty to one counteanor false imprisonment. mayor ed lee then charged the sheriff with official misconduct. he also suspended him without pay. sheriff mirkarimi gave a written testimony last month. his neighbor ivory madison submitted hers which was 22 pages long. she details what iliana lopez told her about the argument when lopez went to her home on january 1st when madison also says that lopez showed red bruise on her arm which he videotaped. about the argument madison wrote that during that time iliana lopez said that ross repeatedly grabbed pushed and pulled her violently, specifically he slammed her against a wall while grabbing her arm and refusing to let go. the written testimony details that lopez describe 20-30 minutes of verbal and physical abuse that happened inside the couple's home in front of their son. patterson contacted police which led to the investigation. is the ethics commission that will begin the fact-finding hearing. tomorrow they will hear arguments from attorneys and may also
