"karl" was agitated about the attorney in new mexico. he may have said, can't we get rid of this guy or something like that?" weeks later, david iglesius found himself on a list of attorneys set to be fired. why was he seen as such a serious problem? karl rove is still making the case in the "wall street journal" today he should have been prosecuting that darn democrat. rove's great defense, quote, despite all their digging, judiciary democrats produced not a shred of evidence that he inkormed mr. iglesias to undertake a prosecution. the idea the press should apologize for making the flood-lit inference here is ridiculous. mr. rove addresses the fact one of his proteges was installed to replace a fired u.s. attorney in arkansas. according to mr. rove, this, too, wa

why would karl rove be so agitated by david iglesias? why was iglesias such a serious problem, according to karl rove? well, e-mails released today from the committee showed rove's deputy, a man named scott jennings, explicitly saying ig lanous should be fired and complaining that mr. iglesias was, quote, shy about doing his job on madrid. madrid is patricia madrid, a democratic candidate for congress who reasons were hoping the u.s. attorney would target with an election eve voter fraud indictment. iglesias didn't do that to patricia madrid. the bush white house and republicans were apparently furious about that, and then david iglesias got fired. the federal prosecutor, laura dan ahee, continues to work on this case. she will decide ultimately whether criminal charges will be filed. >>> next up the off the kook and conspiracy theory that president obama was secretly not born in the united states and, therefore, is secretly not really president might be a more complicated off the kook end conspiracy theory than we originally thought. a

but first, we spoke to a senior adviser to president bush, karl rove. thank you for joining us. >> thank you for having me, greta. greta: the news that has consumed everyone in the last 24 hours has been senator kennedy's death. i assume a while you were here in washington, you had a chance to work with him -- i assume what you were here. >> he was hard-working. when you went to a meeting with ted kennedy, as we did many times at the white house, you had better had done your homework, because he did is. this is a guy that got every morning and said, "how can i advance because i believe in?" heç was a fervent advocate, and he did his homework, so i had a great deal of respect f]r him after i saw how hard he applied himself, particularly in comparison to a lot of people around him. he was an outgoing person, very friendly when he came to the white house, very courteous, a generous person. i found it hard to compare the person that i saw or the person that i saw with sambito or john roberts, particularly sambito and robert bork -- sam salida. i thought it

>> well, the two things that really stood out from the depositions that i did of meyers and rove over the last few weeks were that rove was very heavily involved in pushing iglesias out of office in new mexico. he forwarded on complaints from republican activists in the state. he was agitating, called harriet miers, wanting something done, wanted him gone and kded in pushing out someone the justice department rated as a star prosecutor. contrary to rove's assertions all these decisions were only the doj, they only learned about it after the fact, he was very involved from an early point. the other thing i thought was shocking in terps of harriet miers is rove asked myers to intervene with the justice department to try to clear rick rensy's name, republican congressman under investigation, and she knows it violates doj policy to confirm or deny investigation but she does call doj, and anonymous doj sources or administration sources then call multiple press outlets and try to exonerate the republican congressman. totally inappropriate. and i found it just shocking. >> congressman, good

greta: more with karl rove. how about the recent numbers?it is interesting, the people who are independent and they looked sort of like democrats when it came to supporting obama overall, it looked like democrats when it came to supporting what they knew about the health care plan, they have moved dramatically in the opposite direction and they are looking more like republicans when they are posing a obama on this plan. for example, on the question of taxes, did you think your taxes would go up or down, the new poll, democrats say that they will go up. 95% of republicans and 75% of republicans said they would go up. -- a 75% of independents said they would go up. then there is some significant defections from democrats. for example "would your family be better off or worse off during the reforms?" 27% said they would be better off a 10% said they would be worse off. we have seen some defection amongst democrats. one out of 25 opposes the health care plan amongst the democrats. that has doubled in the last few weeks. greta: the health-care pl

we know karl rove has already testified to congress once. he will testify again.e know about these documents and e-mails. how do they move the ball forward? >> they show he was more interested and more involved in discussions about this than we had first been led to believe. a lot of this involves some of his deputies, too. an e-mail from june 28th surfaced in which his deputy scott jennings wrote to another associate, quote, i would really like to move forward with getting rid of david, the u.s. attorney in new mexico. jennings said he heard that morning from members of congress who are really angry over iglasiglas iglasias' lack of action on voter fraud. white house counsel harriet meier wrote, quote, i believe the decision is to let his four years run out and then appoint someone else if this was the right case. what we don't have here, david, is anything new documenting, no e-mails or documents showing any kind of communication from the white house to the justice department saying get rid of david igelasisas. but there was discussion a between miers and mcnaul
