is there the possibility that the officers could come through royce hall and or powell library, not have to deal with those plywood boards and that barricade at all and simply come through the buildings and emerge essentially in the middle of the encampment and round everybody up. is that a tactical possibility? jonathan, we were thinking it was, but it doesn't look like it at this point, they have completely barricaded the doors to both of those buildings. so let's say the officers were in those buildings. they've got them chained close, stacked up with all sorts of stuff there. they're blocked pretty heavily in both of those buildings. so i don't see officers being able to come storming out of them because they put all sorts of debris in front of the doors as well, but take a look at the skirmish lines right here. you've got chp in the front, lapd behind them again, multiple multiple agencies responding out here. and then you have this encampment, which the school has essentially taken a hands off approach on for over a week as this thing festered and developed more and more and more.

large numbers of police uh, moving towards uh, the building that front upon the encampment thats royce hall. so they can use that as a way of transiting uh through the building and then they're merging to confront the, the gaza solidarity the encampment were also seen in just the last couple of minutes. the police officers here taking a few steps forward and apparently getting ready to perhaps move towards this group of demonstrators or supporters of the demonstrators in the encampment. the number of these supporters seems to have been down quite a bit over the last couple of hours. and as police took a few steps forward, some people decided to leave the area altogether. least have said over a loud speaker that anybody who doesn't leave the area would be subject to arrest. now, the other thing that indicates that things may be coming to a head is that on the opposite side, in campus, police buses are staging. these would be busses, transportation, for any people who are arrested by police as they tried to clear out the in campus. so those are in are in stage now. uh and uh, so that it just,

the quad just outside of royce hall early thursday morning, they started setting up dozens of tents,d people to come out and join in this pro-palestinian demonstration. now, shortly after they were set up, they were met with counter demonstrations and things have been getting more and more heated day by day between those dueling demonstrators and what you're looking at here a little farther down to the south of campus is the police response. we just saw a lot of lapd vehicles leaving the scene and more sheriff's vehicles arriving. a total of at least four agencies in response to the violence that broke out here from these protesters. now we have some video showing you some of that activity. we can tell you that at the request of ucla, the lapd did send units to help the university's public safety department, the public safety team, and they were overwhelmed. at one point, the lapd deployed a helicopter up above to keep an eye on the crowds. the department says that response came after multiple reports of late last week. security was already ramped up because of the tension here betwe
