ryan harris has been working on the story. number one, was the homeowner justified in the shooting? >> that's the big question, kim. and the law says you have to be protecting your life or someone else's life to shoot someone. now, the jefferson county sheriff's office is still investigating that question in this case. a lot of unanswered questions. here's what we know. two guys showed up to this house to look at what the man had for sale. at one point they tied up the homeowner. they took what they wanted and left. you saw them trying to steal his car. he fired several shots at them as they were trying to flee and caused them to crash. it happened in front of the house, not in it. >> the law only applies to deadly force used inside the dwelling, not on the front porch, and certainly not in the >> that's our 9news legal analyst. the homeowner is not protected by the make my day law. there could be other circumstances. part of the investigation that we're just not aware of right now, kim, so we don't know for sure if it was justified there.
