we have nbc bay area's ginger conejero saab joining us. you're getting a look at how san francisco is preparing. >> reporter: that's right, kari. san francisco park and rec crews tell us that they are on call 24/7 throughout the weekend. they will be ready to respond to downed trees or flooding, possible roadblocks given the forecast of wet and windy conditions. it's really that wind that those crews are keeping an eye out for here at pine valley park as well as the grove north of us. they close parks when it gets too windy because of the huge eucalyptus trees that pose a public safety threat. last winter, the grove lost a number of trees. the storms closed to lose around 650 trees from the park system. stern grove, which has reopened, has not done so without sustaining significant damage to also from a pipe that burst and flooded the park. >> our response is to keep our crews on call throughout the winter and also to do tree assessments as often as our funding allows. our other staff will regularly flag trees. >> reporter: other san franc
