for more on this we were joined by major from the salvation army.hy do you think you're short on donations? >> we are about 15% down and our goal with only four or five days left to go. there are a few reasons why that is. number 1 would be that we typically start the week before thanksgiving. that was when the fires were taking place. some of our volunteers were working the fires. and the smoke, the air quality here in the bay area was pretty poor. it was hard for our volunteers to be outside all day long. we got off to a slow start. and with society going away from cash, that is becoming more of a challenge for us with the cattle program of having people put cash in. those along with need for more volunteers is probably the reason why we are down. >> we see the bellringer's out there. they are in pretty popular spots, but the donations don't seem to be coming in. talk to us about what the red kettle campaign does. you provide food and shelter and other services, and disaster relief. talk to us about the people that need your service. >> it is such
