"today in the bay" stephanie chuang live in san francisco with what's behind the price hike. >> good morning, laura and sam. happy friday. usually on the higher side anyway but we're talking about a difference of 42 cents a gallon here in the city specifically. the average for a gallon of regular is 3:76 which is just about what you see at this station here. experts say the quick jump in prices is because of the problem of refineries in the county. the prices are up across the country. they say the swift increase is the most one here in california. gas production and refineries in the state are typically at capacity. there's a pretty big impact when there's a recession. >> i noticed the prices are going up quite rapidly. get gas. the following day and i notice the prices went up almost ten cents. and just today. >> ten cents in a day according to that man. now, here's the impact in the bay area. price per gallon of regular up 42 cents in san francisco and in oakland. up 49 cents in san jose. just some perspective, it's still much better than the record highs that we've seen back in october of 2012 when it
