>> good afternoon this morning around 8:00 this morning, we received a call to bring back our cadaver dog and we worked in conjunction with a dog with the police department and do another search of the first car that had a large amount of wreckage. the dog hit on a couple of spots and we were able to find one other passenger in the wreckage. we utilized our hydraulic tools to open up the train more and reach the person and we were able to extricate that person and have him transported to the medical examiners office, it was a great coordinated effort and the men and women did a great job throughout the whole event and we continue to have an engine and medics unit on scene to make sure everything is done as we go through the wreckage a great partnership with the police department, fire department and ems units getting this last person out. >> thank you. >> we are not done. governor wolf? >> thank you. this was such a tragic occurrence and i'm so sorry on behalf of everyone in pennsylvania, i want to express my condolences to the families and the victims, but i also want to say as a pennsylvanian i am proud of the way this was handled by the folks here in philadelphia as the mayor says, this is an example of cooperation and collaboration we worked together through this tragedy and i condition say enough about the first sponsors that came to this site after the accident and risks their lives to save as many people as they possibly could as a pennsylvanian i want to express my pride and thanks to the mayor and his team for doing such a tremendous job such a terrible terrible tragedy. >> thank you. >> thank you. >> mr. boardman? >> thank you. what a team philadelphia has with us at amtrak. amtrak is heart broken for what happened here. the men and women of amtrak accept their responsible seriously. we know that we have a team here that worked together to help us to help the families to help the families and understand what needed to be done and we have done that. 28 years ago was the last time there was a derailment on the northeast corridor 28 years and 300 million people have ridden amtrak since then. no derailment, no loss of life, today we are committing to i'm committing to meeting the requirement of positive train control, that will happen on the northeast corridor by the end of this year. mayor, governor team thank you on behalf of amtrak. >> can you identify yourself please? >> joe boardman ceo of amtrak. >> good morning. i would like to say i have been a police officer for 32 years and this was a catastrophic event, my deepest sympathy for those lost and injured i'm proud of the response by the philadelphia police department that night it was a catastrophic emergency but the actions of the police that not and what i observed that night and after the incident and the manner in which the philadelphia police were joined with the fire department and worked as a team and rescued the injured in a miraculously short period of time. i'm grateful to the office of emergency management for the support and amtrak specifically the amtrak police they arrived on location and integrated together with those immediately that allowed us to bring this matter to what we now have been we'll continue to work together until everything is returned back to normal. >> philadelphia police department has an ongoing active criminal investigation into this matter and we'll continue to work together with amtrak and the district attorney's office in philadelphia. thank you. >> thank you. sam phillips. >> good afternoon. i just want to summarize things that you heard here this afternoon, they don't just come together and the way we respond to these things is years of planning and coordination and training and exercises we rely on utilities and we partner with public works and all the lighting you see out here, all the things that you don't think about outside of police and fire have to come together and that say testament to this city. we'll have a presence here to support amtrak and the families that experienced this tragedy and we'll do that until we are told that we are no longer needed and we are here for the long haul with this one. and we can always learn from these and it's our responsibility as a city and office of emergency management to make sure that what went smoothly this time continues to go smoothly next time. and any glitches we have we fix for the next time. >> thank you to all the speaker, let me give you one additional piece of information. commissioner
sam phillips and our director sam resnick, this team city state and federal partners working in collaboration and coordination made what could have been an even greater tragedy a life saving miracle here in our city. so i want to thank all of them and express appreciation for our work, their cooperation and their support, state senator tina is with us today but expressed her concern for the families. city councilman bobby hehan communicated on a regular basis we have numerous members of...
