less than a mile from the san jose san jose state campus.e engines responded, and crews were able to knock down the flames within 30 minutes. this is more video from this morning showing the aftermath of the flames. firefighters say no one was hurt, but a cat died in the fire. the cause is under investigation. well, tributes are pouring in for san francisco zoo gorilla who died earlier this week. oscar the gorilla suddenly died on thursday. the zoo announced his death yesterday. it says the 43 year old endangered primate went in for a medical procedure and was in recovery when he stopped breathing. the exact cause of death is unknown. a necropsy will be performed at uc davis. zoo has invited visitors to leave flowers, cards or drawings at the gorilla preserve. been here about four times the last month, so i've seen him a lot, and he actually really loves seeing him. so sad to see silverbacks are just. they're so powerful. they're so beautiful. and they just, i don't know. gorillas just have a special little place for me. oscar lived at the s

earlier this morning we got really torrential rains here in san francisco, and we're told by the san francisco department of water that the runoff actually dug up some of the sediment that they had put in from a recently repaired fire hydrant line, a high pressure fire hydrant line. the runoff basically dug out a lot of the temporary sediment that they had put in there, and that's what caused a pothole that actually kind of snarled up traffic at gaugh and lombard for a good part of the morning, the water crews were able to get in there pretty quickly. they were able to fill in the hole that had been dug up by the runoff and temporarily kind of fill it. they put a big metal plate over it, and they tell us that they are going to permanently repair that intersection with asphalt as soon as this storm passes, so it's probably going to be there for a little while at least. but we did notice that there w some issues with with vehicles as we were there, as some of the cars were trying to kind of get through that kind of squeezed intersection. janelle. okay. sergio quintana, there are going

you see blue skies, san francisco, san jose, walnut creek, and atop san bruno mountain. that's where our storm ranger is parked, constantly scanning close to the ground for any possible rain. earlier, sky ranger flew over the russian river after the river got dangerously high earlier this week. tonight it is continuing to recede, which is great news. sky ranger also got this video of crews working to chop up and clean up a large tree in santa rosa that fell in the storm onto a power line. chief meteorologist jeff ranieri joins us now. jeff, i know we're talking about a break in the rain for the weekend, but looks like it's coming back. yeah, there will be some chances of rain here as we eventually get into next week's forecast. right now you see a little bit of rain left winds anywhere from five to about 20mph. so the winds calmed down. the widespread rain is gone. it's been so nice to get in on that sunshine. and you can see down here across the south bay. we do have some scattered rain in morgan hill that's going to be moving off to the south, away from us here as we m

san jose has elevated to nearly an inch of rain.sort of a moving target, because san jose got the most of their rain in the last hour or two, and there's that system and you can see it's different this keep calling it an atmospheric river storm. it's at this point there's some remnants of an atmospheric river. now it's just a storm. right. that's why we were able to talk about it last night. we're able to identify these storms. tuesday storm today. and then there's the thursday storm on thursday. but not just it's not a fire hose situation. there is moisture. so it's kind of funny that that term is getting thrown around way too much. i think i get it, but i also think it's we need to just go, hey, that's this is a storm. this is going to have like this one today. had a lot of wind, right? it had a lot of low snow elevation showing up tonight. but it just we shouldn't confuse terminologies here. you know, just sometimes it becomes a little buzzword and i don't know if it does. does the storm justice. so here's wednesday morning okay.

san francisco 43 this morning san francisco not likely to be under that freeze warning, but the north bay valleys you see a lot of purple on the map. this includes san rafael, novato, santa rosa and napa, the tri-valley and areas east of san jose into morgan hill could see temperatures tonight in the upper 20s and low 30s. so with clear skies and less wind tomorrow morning likely to see an even colder start to the day tomorrow. and these freeze warnings and frost advisories are likely to continue through about tuesday. now, later next week, some changes as we begin to see the return of an atmospheric, river boosted weather pattern that could lead to some high rain rates. at times we're watching these changes rolling in towards the middle part of next week. as you can see, some of that rain could be significant, especially as we head into thursday. so coming up, we'll talk more about when we begin to see some warmer temperatures around the bay area and that timeline of returning back to rain, and our 7-day forecast coming up at 615. back to you. thank you very much, rob. don't forget,

this is the san francisquito creek. and you may remember, in 2003, this creek spilled over its banks and caused major flooding in parts of east palo alto. you can see now it's moving very swiftly. there's also a lot of debris in here, which is why tonight, residents in this area are on high alert. across the peninsula. heavy rains made it much more difficult to get around today, as people dusted off their umbrellas and dashed into stores. here in san carlos, crews worked to make repairs after the storm knocked out power to this traffic signal. we do expect this storm to bring a decent amount of outage activity at this emergency cter in san carlos. pg&e has an entire fleet of trucks waiting to respond to more outages. the company is also beefing up staffing and turning to technology to determin where power may go out next. we do have a storm outage prediction model, which is a fairly sophisticated tool that uses ai and machine learning. that gives us a really good prediction of how many outages will we'll be seeing, wher

let's take a look at a live picture from our san jose camera, where you can see san jose. 101 raindropsn the lens. people are moving slower, obviously. you take a look at live doppler seven and you can see that there is wet weather across the south bay from the santa cruz mountains, heading towards morgan hill. coyote. you can see here right around evergreen san jose. you're getting steady but scattered showers as we head towards the river road. guerneville windsor area. we're also seeing some rain. there is an urban and small stream flood advisory for sonoma county until midnight tonight. they've already seen some minor flooding and that urban flooding will continue. we're talking about streams, creeks, and of course, roadways. castro valley, hayward 8-80 dublin 580. it is going to be a tough ride as the roads are slippery. this is a level two storm, much of california getting either rain or snow. and as we go, hour by hour, scattered showers will continue going into the evening hours, even into the late night hours. as we take a look at the north bay flood watch is going until 1 p.m.
