san bernardino. let's talk about motive. at this point again, very early in the investigation, but what do we know about a possible motive? >> yeah, the san bernardino city police chief was very clear throughout all of his briefings. the last one only within the last couple of hours here, craig, and he said, you know, we don't know. we're still looking at the possibility of this being terrorism related. he's saying he's not ruling that out. also, there's been the discussion, of course, of is this a workplace violence issue? those are the two potential ways that they're evaluating this current situation. but this is what he last said in his news briefing a couple hours ago. this is the chief. >> i think that based upon what we have seen, and based upon how they were equipped, there had to have been some degree of planning that went into this. so i don't think they just ran home, put on these types of tactical clothes, grabbed guns and came back on a spur of the moment thing. >> so, the chief was also clear to say this, craig, we just were able to clear the irc, which is right behind us. we're still looking at this location. so in actuality he was clear to

san bernardino, california. joining me now is john valdivia, city council member. thank you for being here. ow is san bernardino coping? >> san bernardino is a very resilient city. this is a tragic event. we mourn the loss of the families and victims. >> it was just a couple of yards behind us where this happened at a holiday party. it just seemed so random and yet so bloody. >> this is a city that is resilient. we're a strong community. we certainly believe in family values and rebuilding our city. this is municipal bankruptcy we're talking about and coming out of it. we've been in the cross hairs of bankruptcy for three years. i believe this is an isolated situation. we want to convey that san bernardino is safe, that we're conscientious of the issues we're facing today but san bernardino is on the recovery. >> tell me a little bit about the community. who makes it up? >> there's a mayor and city coupe comprised of elected figures -- >> but the folks who live here, who are they? where are they from? are they generations here? >> we just celebrated a monumental 150-year celebration for the

are continuing to work very, very carefully with our partners here at san bernardino county sheriff's department, san bernardino citypolice department and the atf. these resources are being applied for a number of reasons. i will give you an example of some things we're doing today. we flew in a team to do some -- from washington to do some re-enactment, reconstruction of the crime scene. we have continued collecting evidence and are continuing to collect evidence at the multiple scenes. we are going to fly some evidence back to our laboratory in washington, d.c. today on a plane. that is because we want expeditious analysis of that evidence. as far as the digital media that was asked about earlier, the digital media is incredibly important because we are trying to determine the motive. we do not yet know the motive. we cannot rule anything out at this point. we are hoping that some of that digital media exploitation will help us and assist us in obtaining some of that. again, it would be irresponsible of me and it would be way too early for us to speculate on motive of why this occurred.
