and now as we get a look at our stormranger, our mobile doppler radar, the san bruno mountain. still picking up on a lot of green on the map. head to the north bay, santa rosa, we see pockets of yellow, heading towards calistoga indicating heavier rain. rain moving through guerneville. an area we will watch as the russian river crests. vacaville, still rain coming down. spotty showers for san francisco through the peninsula. and this is what we can expect as we go through the day. we'll talk more about this and look at what else we expect for the afternoon. in the north bay, we have this closure. both directions of highway 37. closed between atherton and 101. four times before. it is the cut through for folks between 37 and 101. the flooding there and throughout santa rosa, city streets. be careful in that area. westbound 580. this happened last storm as well. a big pothole out of the altamonte pass. they closed a couple lanes. we'll track that as well. and the continuing saga. highway 17, traffic control. we know what happened weeks ago. i hope you have better news. >> today i

it's on a mountain in san bruno. scanning around the bay area to give us the best view of what's happening in high detail. as we get a close look at san francisco, bay shore district right now -- bay view district seeing some of the heavier rain move in. to the north bay, the rain is becoming a little more spot where but still light rain moving through petaluma, south of santa rosa. extending over towards fairfield, we see rain. and lafayette, san ramon, heavy rain, as well as oakland and san leandro. the roads are definitely getting pretty wet. in fremont, seeing a heavy downpour there. also in the peninsula with heavy downpours moving through there. and in the south bay. so we will continue to see more of this rain rolling in. the timeline hour-by-hour outlook shows a break after 8:00. then more spotty activity as we go through the day. still at any point we could see scattered showers moving in as this first storm system down. we will see showers moving through tomorrow as well before we catch a little bit longer

mobile doppler radar parked on san bruno mountain. we'll keep this in action today to pick up on possibility of a few more lingering showers as we go through the day. as we zoom out, we see that there is still rain to the north of us. as that moves closer, there may be some rain here and there. for the most part, we're looking at drier conditions and a very cold start. we're at 49 degrees at 9:00 in oakland. lunchtime temperature at about 54 degrees and throughout the day going to see those low 50s, which is much cooler than where we should be for this time in february. as we warm up this week, we continue on with dry weather. i'll talk about that and a look ahead to the weekend. now mike is tracking the ripple effect from those crashes. >> we talk about how delicate the balance is for the bay area commute. on one side of the bay can affect the other. slower drive on san mateo bridge. we're also looking at the problems here on the peninsula. first crash we talked about was whipple avenue northbound 101 with right lanes blocked in that

our doppler radar atop san bruno mountain scanning north and east. no orange or red just yet, most of that still offshore. up around fairfax and north bay, you're beginning to see the rain coming down, wetting roadways in fairfax and east bay. castro valley and dublin beginning to see the rain from the northwest. a lot of the rain has been falling on the west side of the santa cruz mountains. you're getting gusty winds in the santa clara valley. we're probably about two hours away from the strongest winds associated with this storm that we think later on along the coast by half moon bay, by 9:30. now the stronger winds are beginning to shift into the tri valley and south bay. tomorrow morning, not as gusty as what we're about to see tonight. the intense rain associated with storm one, 6:00 p.m., 8:30 to 11:00. as we head towards tomorrow morning's commute, looking at some rain at times. scattered showers as we transition into a break but not really a dry break as we get into monday afternoon. the morning commute, you will still have some rain at time

we have stormranger parked on san bruno mountain. we are the only nbc bay area -- only station in the bay area with this tool. and it gives us a 2d view of rain and the height of the clouds. farther north, a much weaker storm originating farther north and will not cap into subtropical moisture we have seen with previous storms that brought in very heavy rainfall. we are going to see an increase in cloud cover. and also by tonight, mostly cloudy skies, spotty rain early tomorrow morning. as you make plans for the weekend, wet at times at any point from especially saturday morning and again sunday afternoon. we get the second wave of rain. but rainfall totals with both of these systems. it looks like we will see a tenth of app inch of rain or less will be a little bit higher farther to the north in spots like ukiya. as we head over to mike, he has an update on highway 24 with the installed car. >> much calmer day. much calmer commute. it is friday so we should see a lighter volume of traffic. the concern for highway 24 was the person o

call your travel agent or rocky mountaineer for special offers now. tonight: san brunoolice are asking for the public's help in finding the driver of a car that hit and killed a 29- year-old woman back in december. kron4's charles clifford talked to the woman's heartbroken parents. natsthursday afternoon, the parents of 29-year-old carly flynn talked about how their daughter was the light of their lives. they describe a kind soul who loved animals and painting.sotshe was the kindest person you would ever meetback on december 19th, carly had walked from her home here near cherry avenue and san pablo avenue to get a coffee at starbucks. according to investigators, around 530pm she was crossing san pablo on her way back home, when she was struck by a mid size white suv making a left hand turn onto san pablo from cherry avenue. the driver of that vehicle then fled the scene. carly was transported to the hospital with critical injuries and died three days later. in the six weeks since her passing, investigators have not yet identified a suspect in this case. they do say that

san bruno and san francisco, which is why some areas here could get the bulk of that. they are closer to the low. some of these bands that come through the santa cruz mountainsco area north might get the most rain. 50s on the temps here. the wind is just cooking. i mean, due east getting now about 25 to 35. again, the strongest gusts have been to the south. not showing up here. but i know i have seen about 45- plus down around hollister to gilroy. that east wind will be in place for a while until the low ejects out. that won't be for a while. san jose east gusting to 31 miles per hour. even if the rain stops you might be one of the ones where you're not getting much rain and then it is pouring. the upper low should start to track a little bit south. it is favoring areas north here. suffice to say it will be a cloudy, windy and rainy day. once this goes through. then we get a break saturday afternoon. the next system is already screaming across, helped along by a 200 miles per hour jetstream. that brings rain back on sunday. even down to southern california, san luis obispo, down to santa barbara, heavy rain there. los angeles, advisories out for flooding the

mountains into the bay area. breaks in the rain for palo alto. it is getting a little bit more spotty for the peninsula as we are seeing light showers from san brunoht rain in pacifica. as we get a closer look, we are seeing showers moving in there. we will head out to vianey arana. what does it look like in pacifica? >> reporter: it's getting windier by the minute. with the blowing wind from the northeast, we are starting to see the side ways rain develop in addition to these large waves. the storm will move through pretty quickly. at the moment, if i take out my anemometer, which measures wind speeds, it is 15, 16-mile-per-hour gusts. up to 25 miles per hour as well. although you may not have an anemometer like i do, we have our app. i know that pacifica right now you can zoom in on your exact location. it shows you the sustained winds 50 to 60 miles per hour. very easy to download this app. future cast, looking ahead, half moon bay -- >> all right. as kari was saying, the wind gusts are strong. >> hope she doesn't get her phone wet in the rain. we have seen the downpours coming down. looking at additional rainfall for much of the bay area reach
