>> good morning, san francisco. give yourselves a hand for being out here at 4:45. i am a native san franciscan and once again, you hearty, crazy folks have come together to honor the memories of san franciscans who survived being tossed from their beds 116 years ago this morning at 5:12 or 5:11 or 5:13 depending on which native tells the tale. and 116 years ago, powerful seismic waves roared across a prosperous city of san francisco. and experts today estimate the colossal earthquake was around 7.9 on the modern magnitude scale. by the end of the first day, there were 26 aftershocks and would succumb to a raging inferno that showed no mercy to the bewildered citizens for 74 hours. the following year is a brief timeline events that they faced and i would like to give you a moment by moment description of what happened to the city and the citizens on this morning 116 years ago. later, i will introduce to you some of the fellow san franciscans who work every day to be survivors of the inevitable next big one. wednesday, april 18, 1906, 5:12 a.m. a great fore shock is f

[applause]. finally, the central subway will be better connected to the waterfront and the bayview with downtown and chinatown. the beautiful new station. strengthening the connections between long divided communities. that is what i see. housing, jobs, environmental justice, technology, investments, innovation and parks

the people of san francisco, the voters of san francisco approved this back in 2003, and the work began to look at how we were going to reimagine what van ness boulevard would be in order to provide efficient transit and safety and all the things that we need. when i think back to the history of van ness boulevard and what it represented after the 1906 earthquake, when i used to walk up and down these streets and catch the 49 to the 47 to galileo high school, not too long ago, it was auto row. this city was built mostly to accommodate vehicles, and over the years, we've seen a significant shift, people using various modes of transportation. but also, because we are a city who pride ourselves on making sure we are good stewards of the environment, we noticed something. 47% of greenhouse gas emissions happen in this city because of vehicles, and we need to make changes. we need to make our public transportation system more efficient. we need to make sure that we improve our infrastructure so that different modes of transportation be moved around san francisco in a safe and efficient manne

we have been through san francisco health network proud to be the largest provider within the san francisco health plan. we think that we do a good job contributing to the highest performing local health plan providing services to medical beneficiaries in san francisco. i submitted buyback ground another -- my background information and respectfully request your consideration for reappointment. >> supervisor peskin: we will go to seat 4. emily webb. ms. webb. >> good morning, supervisors. thank you so much for considering my reappointment to the san francisco health authority board this morning. my seat represents the seat for st. luke's hospital. now as you are well aware it is part of the c.p.m.c. network. they have along standing commitment to working with the plan to collaborate with local health providers to provide comprehensive access for medical managed care members in san francisco. currently we have approximately 40,000 members that we work with two different medical groups to provide comprehensive care to san francisco health plan members. we find that being on the board is helpf

that existed in san francisco, but we also know that san francisco was a place of opportunity, and balboa that place of opportunity for jose, who was able to be an apprentice, who was able to move up in the ranks and be a part of an incredible union, local 6, the electricians, who do a lot of wonderful work for san francisco, and who have been really great in providing opportunities for city build. we know it's a part of the larger building trades family here, so it's great to see rudy gonzales here, and tom mazzola. this seat has traditionally been a labor seat, one in which the person who is a part of labor, it's usually somebody very prestigious, and the mazzolas, they don't necessarily do a change in leadership very lightly when it comes to this seat, so the fact that they dug deep, and they found someone that they could pass the torch to must mean that you are a very significant person in the labor world, and we are very proud and excited to have you join. i wanted to take this opportunity, we have so many partners and labor leaders here and members of our airport commission. i'm not

[♪♪♪] >>> good morning everyone. i'm san francisco mayor london breed. and today i'm here to talk about laguna honda hospital and i'm joined by the director of department of public health dr. grant colfax as well as the director or laguna honda michael phillips and located in supervisor melgar and we also have a representative from our speaker of the house nancy pelosi's office, her director, dan bernal. we're here to talk specifically about what we know have been challenges at laguna honda hospital. for over 150 years, this facility has been aac

i'm a 24 resident of san francisco. i live in san francisco with my wife. she's a native from san francisco, i'm a transplant to the u.s. i'm grateful for the city where the weather's always kind. i'm a veteran. i served in the air force from 1981 to 1985. i began my law enforcement career. i served for 27 years and retired here in san francisco. i immediately after retiring, i took a job in the private sector in corporate security and i very recently retired from that position. i have always had a passing interest in what's happening with the police department. in answer to supervisor chan's question about chief scott and the suspension of the m.l.u., i am concerned about that. i have to admit, i don't know enough about the chief's decision regardless. i think it's important that he and the district attorney's office continue to communicate i think that when he brings his issues forward and the other issues to the other side, it's heard that ultimately a consensus can be reached and the agreement can be reinstated. i have not regularly attended commission

getting into san francisco. we are looking at that commute a little bit slow, but nothing out of the ordinary and westbound bay bridge is backed up as it normally is, so we'll keep an eye on that, and we'll have another look at some of those east bay community. but right now, let's get right back to the headlines with casio. and we'll move straight to san jose, where three people suspected of being involved in the kidnapping of a three month old boy are under arrest. the baby is now at home safe with family. ktvu magus live and saturday police headquarters to bring us the latest on this evolving investigation, emma money garcia we are expecting to hear from san jose police later this morning. we're also expecting the district attorney's office to determine today the charges for the three suspects involved yesterday. san jose police arrested the man seen on this surveillance video taking the baby from his home in san jose, along with a woman. who was with the baby's grandmother. they also arrested a third person.

we were a center for people with intellectual and development cal disabilities in san francisco san francisco. we also have a program for individuals that have acquired brain injury or traumatic brain injury, and we also have one of the larger after school programs for children with special needs that serves the public school system. the sf carbon fund for us has been the launching pad for an entire program here at the pomeroy center. we received about $15,000. the money was really designed to help us improve our garden by buying plants and material and also some infrastructure like a drip system for plants. we have wine barrels that we repurposed to collect rain water. we actually had removed over 1,000 square feet of concrete so that we could expand the garden. this is where our participants, they come to learn about gardening. they learn about our work in the greenhouse. we have plants that we actually harvest, and eggs from our chickens that we take up and use in cooking classes so that our participants learn as much as anybody else where food comes from. we have two kitchens here at the

in san francisco. dan kerman kron, 4 news. >> a new study coauthored by ucsf scientists shows police are now seizing almost 50 times more fentanyl pills in just 4 years ago. the study's authors are concerned that people may be exposed to fentanyl without even knowing it through counterfeit pills disguised as prescription opioids. that increases the risk of potentially fatal overdoses. california lawmakers are currently looking at several bills to try to curb the rise of deadly overdoses in the state, including harsher punishments for the distribution and possession of fentanyl. today is international transgender visibility day. it's an annual event to celebrate transgender and non-binary people around the world. one of the people who feel strongly about the occasion, the chair of the san francisco democratic party coffers. catherine heenan is here with more on that. catherine? yeah, this woman is a trailblazer. interesting person. >> her name is honey mahogany. she is the first black and transgender ch

[♪♪♪] >> last, but certainly not least is a jell-o be opera. they are the punk rock candidate of the lead singer called the dead kennedys. >> if we are blaming anybody in san francisco, we will just blame the dead kennedys. >> there you go. >> we had situations where concerts were cancelled due to flyers, obscene flyers that the city was thought -- that he thought was obscene that had been put up. the city of san francisco has come around to embrace it's musicians. when they have the centennial for city hall, they brought in all kinds of local musicians and i got to perform at that. that was, at -- in a way, and appreciation from the city of san francisco for the musical legends. i feel

we were the first country to shutdown, san francisco, and we saved thousands of lives because of it. and now, 83% of san franciscans are vaccinated and counting.
