if you're wondering why traffic across the bay bridge into san francisco was backed up early this afternoonnow you can see why drivers had to hit their brakes when a car going westbound lane of the bay bridge just burst into flames, bringing traffic to a halt, the chp says just one car was involved. the fire happened around noon on i-80 west just east of harrison street. a total of three lanes were blocked as crews removed the car and cleaned up the charred debris. all lanes were reopened around 1:00. traffic was still slow in the area. it's not yet known what caused that car to go up in flames. let's give you a live look at the bridge now from our south beach camera. you can see traffic is moving, but still kind of slow heading into the city. not sure if it's just the usual because it is 3:00 or if it's residual delays. southwest airlines announced a major change today saying it is ditching open seating on flights and will begin assigning seats instead. it's an historic shift for the airline, known for its first come, first serve seating policy. abc seven news reporter lena howland has rea

san francisco bay ferry system revealed a 25 year plan to have an all battery electric fleet or hydrogenic fleet no later than 2050. sf bay ferry is already asking shipbuilders for bids on five all electric ferries. >> anything that we do from now on is going to be zero emission starting with the these first five vessels, the likely short term expansion sites include treasure island and mission bay in san francisco, as well as berkeley and redwood city. >> long term, martinez, antioch, pittsburg and hercules to the east, foster city to the south, and direct service from the east bay to marin county in the west. sf bay ferry will begin a pilot test ferry between redwood city and oracle park at the end of this month for five giants games. >> if it works, then it's something that we're going to do more and more of. that's the reason why you do a pilot. >> the golden gate ferry system's first new generation of up to eight ultra low emission ferries, shown in this preliminary rendering, is just a few years off, while the mv lyra that will be the model for a complete fleet replacement by 2033.

bay at 65. so some nice beach weather out towards redwood city. 84, san francisco 69. in the mission and the north bay up to 90 here in santa rosa. now eventually inland valleys hit that 100 mark for some isolated heat on friday. we'll cool it off this weekend. and then the thing we're really looking ahead towards for that next kind of mini heat wave would be next monday, tuesday and wednesday when this area of high pressure, everything i'm seeing right now shows us moving right on top of california. so that's going to bring the heat. some of the hottest weather out towards concord, livermore, antioch, brentwood. we'll see 103 friday and brentwood. drop it off this weekend. but then look at this next monday, tuesday and wednesday. low one. hundreds return. then we drop it after that. so right now looks like a three day event here for us. once we roll into next week for san francisco. no, one hundredths. that is some good news there. we'll start into the 70s downtown on friday, and we'll see those 70s through next wednesday. and for the inland valleys, at least, it's tim

san francisco. the temperatures inland in the east bay, 107. 95 in redwood city. along the coast in half moon bay. up to 101 degrees in san jose. those temperatures are way, way above average for this time of the year. 20 degrees above normal. about 15-18 degrees above normal. again, the tiny step back but it is still leaving us with crazy hot weather as we head into the holiday weekend. right now, let's take a look. there is the beam of light. covering it up with current temperatures that are backing down a little faster than they did 24 hours ago. still warm inland. upper 70s in concord, lower 80s. it is cooling off santa rosa, upper 60s. lower to middle 60s in san francisco and oakland. heading through the rest of tonight, mostly 60s on the map by tomorrow morning, we are supposed to drop to the 50s. with shorter nighttime hours in early summer there is only so much time for the heat that we built up today to radiate off back into space. some of the north bay valleys dipping down into the 50s, heating up again tomorrow, near 70 degrees along the coast. 90s along the peninsula. lower 90s to 100s.

we have an inland concern, but even along the san francisco bay shoreline and into san francisco itself, a heat advisory is in effect starting tomorrow morning. but look at the areas of pink. yes, there is a red flag warning that kicks in tonight at 11 o'clock. and that is you see all these areas of red. the concern is critical. fire weather concerns. the concern is the areas of of gusty winds coming around relative humidities coming off the ocean from the to the ocean from the inland areas. so you see areas even down in the santa cruz mountains as well as an area, such as no peta, ramon from gledhill into pittsburgh heading right through the delta up toward fairfield into sacramento. all these areas critical fire concerns up into the napa valley. napa say molina into sonoma county with kernville and even into parts of marion county. so there's a big concern. high pressure is the dominant weather feature. it's out there in the pacific as we run this through tuesday, wednesday, thursday, friday, you see the high pressure doesn't really move that much. it around a little bit, but it actua

where we have blue skies here over the bay, we have a little bit of fog entering the bay and over the city of san francisco. so we're beginning to see the signs of change. 59 degrees at half moon bay. it's a cool one for you there. 64 in san francisco, but wow, our summertime microclimate pattern in full effect already 95 reported in brentwood in the north bay, 86 over santa rosa. our inner east bay expected to warm back into the one hundreds today. middletown. one neighborhood there already reporting 107. meanwhile, you get closer to the coast. bolinas fire station reporting 61. upper 50s at pillar point. then you go to the peninsula, and we have 87 degrees at stanford. the inner east bay already baking here, and for 94 degrees over dublin. so the advisories are going to continue until 8:00 this evening, even though you can see here we are running cooler, notably cooler novato sfo down by five degrees over oakland. we have excessive heat and then we have the heat advisory. the excessive heat warning is for the inner east bay, as well as the santa clara valley does include our inner north bay hills as well
