that's what some residents in one san francisco neighborhood are demanding from city leaders. they say coyotes are killing their pets. kpix 5 reporter anne makovec is live outside san francisco city hall where a meeting starts later this morning. anne. >> reporter: this is going to be an interesting political fight when you think about it. two topics that people are passionate about the environment and animals. there have been several coyote sightings over the past year in the city. in stern grove, the haight, panhandle and pacific heights. and there have been reports of attacks on cats and small dogs. several have been killed. one just on saturday in balboa terrace. so supervisors and pet owners are asking the department of animal care and control and the rec and parks department what they are planning to do. one was killed including on saturday one in balboa terrace. one dog owner knows how quickly it can happen. >> we just saw a movement in the trees. and our little dog took off and ran towards it and the coyote was -- came out from behind the tree and grabbed him. >> and th

homeless people in the city and county of san francisco are suffering. he residents of city and county of san francisco including residents of my district, district 9, e bearing the bureaued, the brunt of this crisis. we believe that we have reached a state of emergency in the city around the issue of homelessness. and today, i'm introducing an ordinance that calls and outlines a time line for opening of additional navigational centers. this legislation takes the next step. of the ordinance that i'm introducing requires that the executive branch of this government build six additional navigation centers within the next 12 months. the first three of these centers must be built within the next four months. and i want to thank supervisors avalos and mar for their co-sponsorship of this item. as many of you know the navigation center that first opened and the only center that remains open in the city was opened by my office working with the hope office and the mayor's office in march of last year. navigation center has been a success and model for addressing

san francisco is leading the world in funding currently for transgender programs. we have a work agreement with the city of amsterdam as you may know to work on transjndser and lgbt issues, in fact, we have a delegation going to amster dam this year . this fiscal year san francisco is supportive of transgender programs beyond anyones wildest ecpectations. san francisco is contributing about 1.5 million dollars to transgender programs in san francisco. this entails about half going to hiv protection and research and medical needs and case management around medical needs primarily adults. the other half goes to several programs, one is $200,000 to lgbt center for employment. $200,000 goes to latina transgender. these are people who are at a intersection of immigration issues, homeless issues, employment issues, language issues, being transgender and being women and also cultural issues in the latina community so very very high at risk and appreciate the boards work on this. we have $150,000 for 2 years for coalition building to put together a council. that is moving forward very quickly. we also work with

. >> our federation region serves san francisco city and counsel city, marin and sonoma. in our particular federation, what does the federation do? >> we have a large region as you gather geographically relative to many urban federations. in this region first of all what we do is we convene our partners and we together collaborate and plan on what the needs of the community are, how we are going to meet them. we then raise funds sometimes in collaboration with them to ensure that those needs are fulfilled. we determine what the greatest needs of community are and direct the funds in that direction. we have many ancillary services like probono consulting and capital planning for agencies looking to create buildings. in addition we have a philanthropic service arm which provides services to jewish philanthropists. >> so the bay area at large we know is so diverse and vast. the ways in which people identify, however they identify in the world, is just very complex. so how do we within our jewish community understand that complexity when it comes to our jewish community and t
