san francisco residents. on average, san francisco workers performed 20% more hours on ocii-assisted projects than nons non-san francisco workers. meeting work force demands remains challenging. the strong economy provides options. we see this trend nationally, region alally and locally. demands on construction and labor reflect the abilities to attempt to meet the goals. construction labor demand is high and significantly higher than the previous year. to further show this spike in the demand for work force, when compared to the previous fiscal year, we see a 75% increase in the number of total construction hours performed on ocii projects. 1.8 million additional hours were performed on ocii projects in the last year. and while local work force did not increase at a proportion at rate, it did increase by 44% translating to 233,238 hours performed bill san francisco residents. this translates into 140 full time-equivalent positions as defined by metrics established by the office of economic and work force development. to address the previously referenced challenges, ocii and city build staff work closely to as

san francisco. prof. markwyn: absolutely. steve: what influence did they have on the history, culture of san francisco, from the prism of your research, and also on these two expos? prof. markwyn: sure. chinese population of san francisco was and continues to be a really important force in the city, and during both fairs, chinese and japanese were excluded from immigrating to the united states, because the chinese exclusion law was passed in the 1880's, and japanese exclusion was codified through an gentleman's agreement, and by 1924, immigration law, it stopped immigration from asia completely. so both nations were not able to send new immigrants, new workers, immigrants to the fair, yet they were thriving communities in san francisco, and the chinese community in particular participated in both fairs. in the first fair, one of the attractions on the zone that i mentioned earlier, that midway area, was called underground chinatown. it was a part of the village, and it was basically a recreation of what chinatown looked like before the earthquake, and it included every negative thing could you think of about chinese -- gamblers, prostitutes, opium dens, and essentially viewers were supposed to go in and suppo

the environment. ♪ clean power sf is san francisco's key way of fighting climate change by renewable energy and offering it to san francisco customers. i'm from the san public utilities commission. the program came about with state wide legislation in 2002 to enable people to take more control over supplies. i first heard of the program when the organization was advocating to launch clean power sf. what i'm most excited about, it's going to bring 100% renewable energy to my home and reinvest into renewable energy infrastructure and jobs. i had gone to a lot of street fairs and heard from the staff at the san francisco public utilities commission to sign up for clean power sf even before it launched. >> we learned about clean power sf because our sustainability team is always looking for clean operations. linkedin is the largest online network. there are about 530 million members using our site. in this san francisco office there's about 1400 employees working in roughly 400,000 square feet. >> after signing up for the program we heard about the san francisco program and learned they had commercial rates and signed up for that. i'm the co-owner of the

san francisco, because we have more to do. especially with this project. it is wonderful to be here with so many members of the official family of san francisco in terms of the mayor, members of the board, the city attorney, they have been acknowledged as well as our members from the state legislature. david hsu, phil tang and as well as supervisor jane kim who is with us here. this is a representation of what can happen when people work together. public, private, nonprofit. community. the word community has the word unity and it. if there is anything that demonstrates the unity of our community, the work of our skilled building trade workers to make this possible, let us applaud our union members who made all of this possible.
